  • I really enjoy the history of the Plantangenets. And People Profiles does a wonderful job in regard to documentaries about them. The Tudors get all the attention and I personally like the Plantangenet dynasty better. And I like the Anglo Saxon period too. Alfred the Great is another one of my favorite rulers of England.

Immensely underrated King of England in my humble opinion!
  • @emabelsmithable
I found myself admiring him even more as I listened. From studying period of Richard II, I concluded that Bolingbroke was a dutiful, wise and enlightened king.
  • This video is my fav till now. Only cause I'm one of the few King Henry IV fans! What an understimated king and character almost like his father!... Cheers from México I love your channel and bios.! (Specially medieval ones)
  • Thanks! I truly enjoy your deep dives and I learn so many new things every time. As an American the history of England is so intricate and long! Sometimes I struggle to make certain I’ve got the right Richard and correct Henry! 🙄🤣Thank you for everything you do I look forward to your videos!

Excellent, going to watch this a few more times as there is so much detail. Thank you.
  • I always enjoy reading about the parents of the more famous rulers, like it gives you perspective of who/what made that famous ruler the person they were.
  • Henry IV sounds like the best of leaders, always trying to do his best for everyone in the realm, not just himself.
  • @ladybabbleon
Still rooting for that Cesare Borgias doc! 😜 That being said, I love the history of English royalty. You guys do great work, thanks for the excellent content!
  • @Viscount3
Good video. Watched it 4 months ago. And listened it to again today. And just as refreshingly detailed as the first time.

I am so very touched by the thought of a priest telling a sick dying old man a white lie so that the man could die happier. It's actually very sweet.
  • @MalGK24
Thanks for the upload! Always wanted to learn more about Henry IV!

Excellent! Initially I mostly knew about Henry IV from his part in other people's stories, like Owain Glyndwr's, & I've been trying to learn more about Henry specifically, & this pulled everything together really well. I have to agree that he's underrated, & judged too harshly- what the heck did he do, except usurp a murderous tyrant who'd had 20+ years to change his ways & didn't? It was also great to watch this right after the one on John of Gaunt- I feel very educated on the origins of the Lancastrians. Henry V next!
  • Yet another really great video. I am still hoping to see a Margaret of Anjou video though.

My first super thanks! Thank you so very much, I truly enjoy the vids that you put out and appreciate all the hard work!

Henry Bollingbroke reminds me of Henry Tudor, as they both did their best work BEFORE ascending to the throne in removing their respective Richards. However, they then went on to have short, cold, unstable, paranoid reigns that were dogged with doubts about the survival of the previous monarch, pretenders galore, financial issues and legitimacy concerns, as well as having sons who were more youthful, energetic and popular itching to take over. Undeniably, both were mostly excellent when you take their lives as a whole, with John of Gaunt and Margaret Beaufort, respectively, raising them very well.
