Kerbside cleanup MEGA study of valuable Trash & Treasure that's up for grabs. This is the Australian Summer 2023 cleanup and what I find this time around is amazing. Of course there is lots of Made In China rubbish and some of it isn't very old. Just incredible to find a $1000 near new Carpet Cleaner and $700 new DeWalt line trimmer. If I see items that are not made in China I focus on them. By seeing the quality of items made in Japan, made in Australia or wherever we start to understand how good older consumer goods are. In this way the rubbish piles talk to us and are hopefully indicating to us the perils of consistently buying cheap Made In China rubbish which becomes fast landfill. I find a record number of Dyson vacuum cleaners, and none of these are spring chickens. One of them was destroyed by vacuuming up plaster dust. The Summer time cleanup coincides with Christmas decorations around homes. I do look over one of the best light display houses in the suburb right on dusk even if my iPhone struggled.

In this video I remember a fantastic Australian YouTuber. Edward "Ed" Jones (1986 - May 29, 2019, aged 32, known more commonly as Aussie50 was an Australian YouTuber who uploaded content about technology, gaming and engineering mainly in his shed from late-2008 to mid-2019. I learned lots of things Aussie50's videos, Ed was a very intelligent person who explained electronics and engineering in plain English. He had a passion for scrap stuff and hacking just about everything he touched.

This is a long video, I don't expect anyone to watch it in one hit. There's a lot of amazing finds along the way and this time around I revisit rubbish piles as they evolve. It's amazing what gets picked up as valuable trash.

I did have a serious run in with a local who said I had no permission to video the rubbish that's put out for council collection. This local was aggressive and threatening. It had me delay this upload while I looked into the rights of video recording rubbish in a public space. Remember this rubbish is put out on the curbside outside of a property boundary. I'm also careful not to identify which house the rubbish comes from. In fact I never speak about streets to identify exactly where I am. Anyway this run in with the local nutcase did have me pull up the video.

Interesting with those Coles little shop plastic trollies, in the UK we have a supermarket chain called Marks and Spencer’s that also had a “little shop” series like Coles, however I remember the trolleys and baskets being made of metal instead of plastic, so I suppose they were better quality than those plastic Coles ones. Makes you wonder how hypocritical these companies can be though.

I really can’t stress how important charity shops are. I’m lucky to have one (Vinnies) in the town where I live, as well as being a 15 minute train journey to Newcastle, where there are heaps of charity shops. I like to donate a little extra money when I can to these shops as well. 🤝

watching this video is like reliving my childhood and i could not be more pleased to see that leo is still doing well and doing what he enjoys. Thank You.
  • I had a similar incident when filming some b-roll footage for school. Was filming away from people and yet still had someone come up to me and aggressively complain about what I was doing. People can be crazy.

that carpet washer was originally a Bissell model, the Proheat 2X during the 2000s, from memory they were decently reliable and performed well, but I'm assuming the patents for it got sold when Bissell stopped making it/introduced a newer model at one point and it made its way to Godfreys, who slapped the Wertheim badges on and the rest is history.

Dealing with crazies in the suburbs is mind boggling, I’m a public servant in America and get to deal with them all the time. Those health balls are something my father had which I inherited, my understanding is to roll them in your hand without making them jingle. So sad how much waste is in our society. Being in the northern hemisphere it’s hard for me to imagine a summer Christmas.

Didn’t think I’d go all through in one sitting but I really enjoyed this! Great video leo!
  • Leo, I don't think it would matter to me and my son if you uploaded a video of you whistling the tune of neighbours for an hour, you're just a top man and well loved by your audience. I really enjoyed watching you peruse what people throw away
  • So amazing to watch your trash and treasure hunt videos again 😊😊 love it!!!

Watching this on Sunday morning with a coffee, gotta enjoy these moments.
  • We have a Dyson V8 vacuum and while it’s a bit beaten up, it still by some miracle, it still works. Also I’m a long time viewer of your channel Lio, I still have that DVD you shipped to me of your Mad Bomber Thomas Episode from long ago.
