In late 2015, a twitter account known as Uma Kompton appeared. The account's profile featured a seemingly unassuming woman, but time would prove the owner of the account was anything but that. Shortly after its creation vulgar, crass, and taboo posts would begin populating the timeline. These posts shocked those in the twitter community, some finding them funny, others disgusted. Some were convinced she was a real person, others thought she was a troll, what was the truth? This is the Uma Kompton story.

"Two abortion attempts and still kicking, we named her Miracle." This line alone should've told everyone this was a troll account
  • @notsomiku
wait people thought her tweets were real?? it was clearly a troll 😭

The moment I saw her and her boyfriend's faces I immediately thought they were Russian. I'm from Russia myself and some people from smaller cities and villages look just like them.

This is so scary and messed up. If Natalya didn't know that this was going on, id like to think it probably didn't effect her as much as she lived on the opposite side of the world. But who knows.

Uma Kompton's diss trick on ricegum is still better than any song ricegum has ever made
  • @Uptomyknees
"The internet is not a fair place." Breaking this down almost felt like a True Crime episode; really good stuff.

This ain't even a meme, it's just cruel
  • @ShadowSora8491
That story is an example of taking a "joke" WAY too far. It's not a "joke," anymore, when you resort to stealing an innocent person's likeness for it.
  • I remember this account back in the day just thought it was some girl being a character saying random cringe stuff as a joke, never thought it was a fake account and used photos of the girl without her consent

The fact RiceGum can't even pronounce Bok Choy "Bok Chowy" and Genghis Khan "Geng His" is a real show of his intellect.
  • No, don’t downplay it. it isn’t just “a little cruel”, it’s completely fucked up and illegal.
  • @jukebahx
The fact that anyone thought this was anything BUT a troll is disappointing

The Uma Kompton character is funny af, but no one deserves to have their identity destroyed like that. Edit: I have no idea how this got one thousand likes, but thanks.

What impresses me in this story isn't even BuzzFeed being the good guys for a change, it's the fact that no one thought of unmasking Uma way earlier by reverse Google searching her photos.
  • @MycelianNetwork
I hope Natalya is doing well these days. Nobody deserves this kind of treatment.
  • @rust44
I felt so bad for the actual woman. It’s Rice Gum’s fault for making the account seem legit.
  • @triggeredcat120
I feel terrible for Natalya and her family. Her body is goals!!

How familiar with the “western side” of the internet an average Russian usually is? Hopefully the fact that she didn’t know anything about it until buzzfeed reached out is a sign that her life in Russia wouldn’t have been affected by it…
