I am white male and I can relate to this song. I grew up very poor. My white skin didn't do me any favors living in brown and black neighbors. I was attacked consistently for being white. We moved so much because my family was so dysfunctional and poor, It took me over 12 schools just to end graduating from Redlands adult school at the age of 25. Which I am so proud of. After quitting multiple drugs, I later went on to college and now have a good career and a great family that Im proud to take care of. I've now been sober for over 20 years and I love everyone the same. I don't judge a man by his skin color but rather yet by his character. Thanks Tom for your messages,

Tom I know you'll probably never read this but I felt like I needed to tell you that your music really has helped me. I've been burned by all my family multiple times except my Mom who's my Ride or die even now. Without her ,and my Husband, I don't think I could have gotten as far as I have, but sometimes I get so stuck in my head with my anxiety and depression even they can't reach me. So I had to tell you that because of your music I've started trying to come out of my shell more. I've started talking to my friends again, and I'm feeling more confident that I will get what I want in the future even if it means I still have to struggle a lot in the short term.
