5 simple tips to make our picky Pomsky eat her dry food (Picky eater dog training)

Published 2021-04-29
Some dogs are known for being picky eaters. Our dog is a Pomsky, and Pomskies are particularly fussy when it comes to food. This video covers our tips and tricks to make our picky dog eat her food. Dry food, wet food, paté, kibbles, treats, toppers... we've tried it all! If every meal seems to be a battle, this video is for you.

We want to give a big thanks to Koha for sponsoring this video. We use Koha's Single Ingredient wet food as a topper to Beedi's dry kibbles. If you want your dog to try Koha, you can visit their website at www.kohapet.com. If you use the promo code POMSKY20, you'll get 20% off your first order.

If you want to follow Beedi's adventures, you can find her on Instagram at beedi_the_pomsky. We also want to give credit for the cameo appearance of mamba, another Pomsky. You can check Mamba's Instagram at thepomskymamba. If you want to follow us, our Instagram is james_and_laurent

  • Our Bandit eats mostly wet food (Fresh Pet Select). He loved the chicken at first now only likes beef. We have found that adding apple sauce(1 tablespoon or less) or yogurt(same amount as the applesauce). This is his new favorite, for now at least. Pumpkin worked for a little bit. We also add hard boiled eggs but not every day. The only time he will eat his kibble is in his puzzle board or as his evening snack. We tried mixing the kibble with the wet food but he wouldn’t touch it at all. We never know when he will change and no longer like something so we mix it frequently.

I'm new 😊 and love these videos. Thanks so much! I use step 5 with a mix of wet and dry lol but they are in separate bowls.

Your dog and my dog have a lot in common. Great video.... you guys are a blast

It’s fun to hide their food and it’s a game to make them find it.

My family and I just got a 9 week old chocolate merle pomsky with deep blue eyes three days ago and I've been looking through a ton of videos on them! We named him Rocket and I feel like he's been very happy in our home so far :) A fun little ball of energy always down for playtime but at the same time very calm and collected haha. Thanks for sharing your tips and I hope that he'll be as healthy and happy as your Beedi in the future!!!
  • Glad to know my pomksy isn’t the only one! I was getting concerned & thought she was sick.

This is very common with Huskies. They are insanely pickey and get bored quickly! Changing the way the food looks, or even the color of food can sometimes work, but our 2 huskies require an almost all raw diet that I have to prepare differently each time while rotating the types of food.

My pomsky Emi is extremely picky eater! I give her kibble non nom farmers dog rotisserie chicken ground beef. She won’t eat the same food twice a day!
  • Great video! I started making batches of food for Sophie in my instant pot. She now licks her bowl clean every day when she used to leave her kibble sit for days without eating it. She is also allergic to chicken so I know she's not getting any poultry when I cook for her.
  • My Nova can be picky at times but if I swap kibble brands, back and forth she tends not to get bored
  • We give ours Canada and soft goods also and some chicken and a treat hamburger. We also have a pomeranian and mini pin. Pomsky 1yr,Pom 2yr and Min Pin Dec will be 2yr..Our Pomsky is the most active. Have a good day. Love watching your videos.

Phantom is picky but he is also very sensitive! He has food and seasonal allergies so we are careful with what we feed. We have settled on feeding fresh, I use Just Food For Dogs fish and sweet potato recipe. I cook enough to last us a week, and it seems to be the best. It has reduced his seasonal itchyness. We used to feed kibble, and I do keep a bag of Orijen six fish on hand for emergencies and he does enjoy the kibble when it is on occasion. We also use the kibble as treats for training.

My pomeranian was a really picky eater. I went with the free feeding method. That way he could snack his food. Worked a wonder. But still had to make different food for him. I found home made food he loved more than kibble and wet dog food.

My Pomsky that I just got he is only 5 months old and already weighs 35lbs how big do you think he will get?

Very useful! I have a blue Merles Pomsky and he’s very cheeky and sometimes picky!! I have had him for a year and he’s a just over one years old and only prefers wet food he only has dry foods if I hand feed it. I also have trouble with him communicating with other dogs without him humping then after a couple mins what can I dooo 🙈
  • My Pomsky Bucky will only eat meat. He is sooooo picky. For some reason he turned his nose up at his steak tonight. It is so frustrating. I have to contact his vet to find a multi vitamin for him. Trying to get him to take medicine is challenging too, but I found if I put it in cream cheese he will eat it.

Hi! I want a pomsky so badly, and my birthday is coming up. My Dad isn’t really sure about getting a pomsky mainly cause of the price tag. I’ve wanted one fore 2 years but idk if he’s gonna budge. He was saying that we aren’t home enough to own a dog. My mom works a 9-5 job in retail 3 days a week, my dad is a lawyer who works 6 days, and me and my little brother go to school for 6 hours. I would also have the whole summer to train the dog, since my birthday is at the end of June. Would this schedule be healthy for a pomsky? By the way me and my family go on a lot of walks.

i got a pomsky puppy yesterday and although she’s precious, trying to get her to eat has been a struggle. The pet store i bought her from gave me dry food and wet food to feed her along with instructions/measurements. However, no matter what i do she just won’t eat. She will sniff it and lick it a bit but never actually eat it. Not sure what else to do for my baby girl 😭😭😭🥺
