Jodi Benson was the original voice who has been nothing but supportive of Halle. Also Alan Menken the composer for the animated Little Mermaid wanted Halle to sing an octave above, the Broadway version, cause he knew she could.

That “part of your world” sung at the end actually gave me chills! It’s beyond fantastic!! Well done Halle!!!

I am obsessed with every choice Halle makes in the vocals. She's so freaking talented. The octave change and the full belt in the reprise is everything. I was on my feet ready to throw money at my TV to get this movie early. Halle is fantastic and this movie looks phenomenal so far

In the original animated version Triton didn't sing. However in the Broadway show he did have a few songs. I just hope his singing voice is as majestical!

Halle Bailey’s voice is immaculate! She has one of the most angelic voices out there. You’ve gotta hear her work with her sister, Chloe. As for Melissa McCarthy, she won me over with this trailer. I think she can pull it off. And the guy playing Eric is named Jonah Hauer-King. I think he’s a newcomer.

Also, Melissa Mcarthy would be perfect for this because she loves drag queens, she use to do drag, if anyone would understand who Ursula was molded after, it would be her. I am super excited for her to have the Ursula role. Give her a chance, I think you may be surprised that she would bring her own twist but stay true to the character.

FYI: Melissa McCarthy got an Oscar Nod for "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" from 2018, which is a biopic drama based on true events. As for her singing, she recorded with Babs herself, Barbra Streisand"Anything you can do I can do better" in 2016 and she also did rap (that's right, you read rap) for "The Boss" that same year. Also, is allegedly reported that she did drag a few times but never developed further. And besides: 1. Ursula (an allegedly drag character based physically on Divine) had no name in the book, only credited as "The Witch from the sea" 2. Pat Carroll (a cis woman) Voiced her in almost every single appearance that the character had 3. It was Howard Ashman's suggestion to make the character look Drag, against the original production plans. So and after all this things, Melissa McCarthy is the most qualified performer to bring to life and in flesh and bones Ursula, and to make her part of our world.

Ursula is definitely more dramatic in the OG movie, but in the musical (or at least in the high school version I saw) she has some great comedic moments, and has another song referencing her history, which is a very fun number. Also, in the trailer, Halle is singing the reprise after saving Eric, and I believe in the original Jodi Benson starts it out slowly as well. Plus, Halle taking it an octave higher at the end is also in the Broadway reprise. Sorry for the info dump, but I just thought I'd share in case some of your followers didn't know 😊😊

Lea Selonga was the singing voice for Jasmine and Mulan. Jodi Benson was the original Ariel and is also set to make an appearance in the live action!

Jodi Benson was the original Ariel voice and actually acts in this one! Also, Javier is not Neegan...but is a fantastic actor with a great resume!!
