She has NO idea what she meant to people of my generation at that time. Simply love her.

I lived in a dorm at Michigan State from 1988-1990. On Thursday nights, a trio of girls down the hall from me opened their door and invited anyone who wanted to watch A Different World to come in and find a seat on their floor. It brought together girls who grew up in Detroit who roomed together with girls who grew up in Grand Rapids that roomed together. It's hard to explain but it was like for that one night at least, the black students invited the non racist white students to come see a part of their culture and experiences. It's one of my best memories of dorm living.

There will never ever be another wedding scene like the one on A Different World, when DeWayne busted up Whitley’s wedding ceremony…and yelled, BABY PLEASE!!! at the end. Just hits different and goes down in history (or at least my history) as the best tv wedding.

    She's not unsung. She's accomplished!!!!

I have to give Debbie Allen the credit for being the visionary and master mind behind the ideas and love story. She saw that it would be a smashing success even when they didn't think it would work and boy was her vision on point!

Her father taught me Philosophy and Religion at Morehouse in the 90's. He was tough but cool. Met her in target at Camp Creek, she stopped the place from functioning. She's a legend. I'm glad she's smelled her flowers early enough

Let's be real: nbc could relaunch a show with those 4: Jasmine, Kadeem, Cree and the actor playing Ron, and it would be a hit!
  • Because of A Different World the enrollment in hbcu's went up. There is power in the images we see on the screen. Thank you Debbie for directing a show that was authentic in showing black college culture. Jasmine your talent and beauty, has had an impact on black cinema. Thank you for keeping it real.

I don’t think Jasmine Guy can imagine how much she has inspired so many. Actor, SINGER, director…..I mean she’s Legendary. Come off of it. ❤️🙌🏾👏🏾

I was in the military during the time of A Different World. I named my daughter Jasmine, my friend named her son Kadeem, later I met another friend who named her daughter Jaleesa, and later my sons babysitter’s daughter was named Cree. There’s a bunch of 32-34yr old black millennials with names from this show 🙂

I graduated from an HBCU because of this show.

I wonder how those kids that bullied her as a child felt watching her on A Different World 😅.

She has earned everything that she has. Love Always.

She will always be Whitley...she can't escape it. The character was hugely adored, iconic, and at the same time inescapable like Urkel, JJ Evans, etc. People always call them by that popular character name no matter how old they become. She was most known for A Different World period.

"If you're still lucky enough to have a home to go to." THAT PART!!
  • Ms.Jasmine Guy, you are very accomplished!! Thank you showing us your talent in a Different World!!!
  • @sweetbaby9306
A different World came alive when Lisa left and Jasmine became the star of the show. I adored the others characters as well, but she was the main reason I tune in to watch. She is such a talented woman. They don't make them like her anymore to sing, act & dance. I will be a forever fan. Thank you for entaintaining us. 🤗👏
