A little late but we talk about the Matt Savoie for Ryan McLeod trade that Edmonton and Buffalo made the other day.

Wait, didn't this happen like 4 days ago? I thought we flipped Savoie for something else when you opened with "we have another trade". 😅

Loving to see Savoie on a Canadian team. Welcome home buddy!
  • @worldlystuff
no telling who wins the trade until we see both players in action on their new teams, thats how i feel about it

As an oilers fan I love this so much. Any player with a chance to play with McDavid or Driasitl is already so interesting, but one as good and young as savoie could be different. If he develops into what I believe he could be, he could fit very well on one of the top two lines with McDavid or Driasitl

Yeah McLeod is 6’3 but I’ve never seen him throw a hit in an oilers uniform lol. If that’s what the sabres are looking for they got the wrong guy 😂 absolute steal for the oilers my goodness

From Buff, at first I was like wtf, but thought about it for a bit, and he did drop from being our top prospect to like our 4th best before the trade. And he’s nowhere near NHL ready. We needed a 3rd line center and we got him in McLeod

This is similar to Holtz and schmid for cotter. Head scratcher but it fills the NOW need when you are stacked up on ELCs.
  • Savoie is a small perimeter player made of glass. As a sabres fan. I love this trade. Hope savoie has a good career buff dosent need him

Savoie wasn’t Buffalo’s top prospect. He was already passed by Benson, Kulich and Olsen who have playing extended time against men. Savoie still playing with teenagers. No room for all of them. Plus something about Savoie’s ongoing shoulder injuries adds more questions.

I like your oilers analysis. The best on YouTube by far.

The trade addresses both team needs. Oilers need some quality prospect and cap relief. Buffalo needs NHL-ready players. McLeod is a solid player, but he isn't becoming the player the Oilers need him to be. I hate to say it but the Oilers can probably fill his role pretty easily. I suppose the main knock on McLeod is he doesn't really use his size as well as you'd hope, and he brings less offensively to the team than you might like. He's still young and that can change. Who knows if Savoie will play a big role on the Oilers, but he's sort of "cash on hand". If the Oilers want to make a trade during the season, having a solid prospect to deal is what they'll need. They can't just keep giving away draft picks.

Each team was in a different place, each got what they needed.
  • @nogitsune4542
even savoie looks happy af this trade happened. hes been freed from the purgatory in Buffalo
  • @spicyfrog8818
It's an immediate winning trade for Buffalo. They're prospect rich and they need someone like McLeod. As an immediate benefit, Edmonton dropped its cap in the trade. Savoie will likely start in Bakersfield and how he turns out is up in the air. No matter how good a prospect looks on paper, a prospect is ultimately just that: a prospect. Buffalo traded for a sure thing that they needed for this coming season and Edmonton is taking a gamble.
  • @Dustyy_nhl
maybe ppl don't want to hear it, but buffalo can definitely afford to lose one of their prospects. Their Forward prospect pool is absolutely loaded and savoie i think would have trouble making his way up the lineup. Imo buf can definitely afford to lose him, but yeah it's not the best trade
  • @Iamabigfanofcheese
Value wise it’s not a good trade. But Savoie had nowhere to go in the lineup, and we need to win now. McLeod will help us win now more than Savoie will. Kulich and Benson had jumped Savoie and we still have Ostlund, Rosen, Wahlberg and Helenius.
  • @ODSTGodzilla
Always loved Savoie He was unreal in Winnipeg with the ICE
  • @cmills-fl4gn
Bottom line: Savoie will not play an nhl game this season, McLeod will. Buffalo needed to get better NOW and they did that
