Our Lessons in Leadership series is one of the ways LGW seeks to connect the region's brightest and most dynamic leaders.
On Friday, March 2, over 100 business leaders, influencers, and innovators gathered to hear insights from renowned financier and philanthropist David Rubenstein.
As the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group and President of the Economic Club, David exemplifies what it means to be a leader not only in business but also as a committed philanthropist. He embodies the perfect combination of executive mastery, compassion, and impact.
The conversation, moderated by Richard Bynum (’13) of PNC was filled will humor, and reflections on an accomplished career so far. A special thank you to our series host PNC, and thank you to David Rubenstein, for sharing personal and professional insights with the LGW membership.

David is intelligently hilarious! He is an idol of mine. Always enjoy listening to him.
  • David Rubenstein is a very effective communicator indeed. He covers a LOT of content in a SHORT time, and it is not hard or taxing to follow-along / absorb. I noticed the same quality his "The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations" too. Absolutely worth watching! Thanks for these video posts.

I like david's story about him realizing he wasn't that good at being a lawyer, nor even knew what leveraged buy outs were when he set out to start Carlyle; he couldn't even find some finance guys to start a firm with so he can become legal counsel. All he knew was the time he spent at washington meant that he knew more about regulations than most investment firms. I guess the lesson I get from him is there will be tons of opportunities in life, make sure you're atleast good at one thing because that's enough to get the ball rolling; also keep reading the news/books about what you're interested in, that's how david found his opportunity in leveraged buyouts.
  • Mr Rubenstein is a great speaker. Has a way of keeping you engaged and listening. Thank you

  • Great listening to him. Didn’t know Washington and New York have the same problems that of our country. High rises on one side and pot holes on the roads to ruin the best cars of today’s world! Very 😔. From India that is Bharat.
