“When The Levee Breaks” is a powerful, thought-provoking and emotionally-charged classic by Led Zeppelin, from their Led Zeppelin IV album. The song is a rework of the 1929 original release by Kansas Joe Mccoy and Memphis Minnie about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927; the most destructive river flooding in U.S. history.
“It seems that little has changed since 1927, or even 2005 with Katrina. It’s still a really powerful track, both musically and lyrically.”- John Paul Jones
Legendary multi-instrumentalist, John Paul Jones, is accompanied by Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and over 20 musicians and dancers from seven different countries, in this Song Around The World version featured in Peace Through Music: A Global Event for the Environment.

Feel the impact of these compelling lyrics and let the music move your spirit!

  • How the songs of this great band and John Paul Jones himself can bring the world together and tears to my eyes.
  • @Paneeks1960
John Paul Jones never cared about the spotlight. But his presence is always known~

Susan Tedeschi's singing here raises the hair on my body! Lord, have mercy!
  • This man was the backbone of Led Zeppelin, creative genius and truly nice person.
  • I met John Paul Jones in a bar in Long Beach. He was on holiday with Wife and son, real cool guy. Had a few Heineken's and talked about Rock & Roll.
  • Wow!!! Just Wow!!! ... and that Harmonica... he caught the very Soul of this classic and just blew it back down from the heavens. ❤
  • That bassist John Paul Jones is really good, he should join a band he’d make it big
  • @PitboyHarmony1
Blown away. The sonic addition of the Maori lady and the Norwegian singer was just extreme. Takes this song we all know, to a whole different place, and sinks the message in that much more.

“Crying won’t help you , prayer won’t do you no good”. One of the greatest lines I have ever heard.

Zeppelin was a very rare moment. Four individual genius and virtuosos in his own paths. And with gigantic chemistry as a team. Even Beatles wasn't so balanced individually and as a team.

I've read at least 1 million youtube comments about "underrated" bands, singers, musicians, etc. But there simply is no human being more underrated than John Paul Jones. He played: Bass guitar, guitar, recorder, koto, lap steel guitar, autoharp, ukulele, clavinet, sitar, keyboards, keytar, mandolin, cello, harp, chitarrone, lirone, viola da gamba and percussion He sang vocals in the greatest rock band in history. He's a composer, and has been in 9 movies/vid's. He has been an active musician for almost 60 YEARS. I say again: There simply is no human being more underrated than John Paul Jones. Period.
