A Tribute to Black Women and the Afro

I have always loved the way the afro and afro derivatives look on black women. Unfortunately, it's not as popular as it should be. Black women, largely, have no idea how good they look with this hairstyle.

I browsed the internet for pictures of black women with afros. I packaged some of them here in this video for your viewing pleasure.

More and more African American women are beginning to wear their beautiful hair in a natural hair style and I am so proud!!!

As a child of the 60's and 70's, I don't understand why it takes people these days so long to maintain their natural hair. My friends and I wore Afros from the 6th grade to college and it did not take us hours to do our hair and tbe afro had just become popular so we really had no one instructing us. We were so happy to not have our hair pressed anymore that we figured it out. We plaited it every night and styled it in the morning. Wash day consisted of washing conditioning, oiling and braiding. Sometimes your friends or family plaited it for you. It was a part of our life like brushing our teeth, not a chore. I think the beauty industry has come with all these products and processes that make it more complicated than it should be. Keep it simple.

If God made anything more beautiful than a Black Woman then He kept it for Himself! My Brother I applaud you in this salute to our Queens! I pray we remember to treat them with the dignity they deserve and that they learn to expect it from us. Bravo Sir!!

Afros are where it's at! The problem is, a lot of young black women are brainwashed by the media into thinking that their natural hair is 'ugly' and "hard to maintain". But in reality, it's really not that hard to maintain your natural hair. It just takes love, knowledge and patience. I'm currently rocking a twa (teenie weenie afro) and I couldn't be happier!

You know, a few months ago I saw these two girls with afros. I just stopped and stared like a dummy and then I caught my stupid self. But I was just entranced by their natural beauty.  I honestly don't remember the last time I saw a black woman wear their hair naturally like that. All you sisters out there need to break out of that mindset you're in. Black is beautiful.

Maybe I'll do a part II and include more variety. I'm kind of partial to the large, dramatic type, but I do appreciate all of the shapes, sizes and cuts.

I'm digging it. Would have liked to see more heights (short, medium, very low ) and more cuts (different shapes), but nothing beats a black woman in a big afro. It still strikes me when I see it, as it was the first time - the 70's - that I knew about great-looking black women, even though I was too young, like 9 - 12. I never was impressed with Naomi Campbell til I saw this. What a difference !
