We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

  • Thanks for sharing this great video mate and as always all the best to you guys and your family and your friends mate.
  • Hi.... Evan and Rebecca nice to see you both Love watching your video homestead beautiful great good job BYE 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
  • how about putting a timer on the pump and that way you dont have to worry about forgetting it ! maybe even set it so you HAVE to reset it once a day after you get through the set up procedure to keep it running that way IF it breaks again you will catch it???? maybe even add risers to bring the bubblers up off the bottom a little higher??
  • 🤓 THAT IS AN OPERATION THAT MUST KEEP AN EYE ON. GOOD JOB!
  • They’re growing! That’s exciting to see the pond coming back to life. Thanks for sharing!
  • Good to see the pond be a focus!!! My buddy hired his nephew and his high school friend to take two John Boats out and scoop out the Duckweed with pool skimmers. They did that all day for a few days and they’d come back to shore to unload what they scooped up over and over. The next year it was pretty much gone. They scooped a bit more out but it’s not an issue anymore.
  • @beenebb
my father was also a farmer in the Netherlands and had a pond with fish, then one got into a duckweed, what he did took over the entire area, he threw a pack of straw in it, because of the rotting of the straw, a type of bacteria was released that couldn't handle the duckweed and the water became clear again, that doesn't happen overnight, but he has the water clear again. I will say you need a few more packs of straw, but it's worth a try, and real straw not hay
  • I just wanted to take a moment and comment that you are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels to watch.
  • Evan - Becca, tks for the update on the pond. Happy to see it was not a total fish kill!
  • Nice work Evan Rebecca looks like fish are coming back. Have a great day.
  • Cannot wait to go fishing crappies this cool autumn Duckweed is really pain in neck! Thank you for post
  • Looking good around there on this fun day. Those small bluegill are great to fry up and eat like tater chips, the bigger ones can be smoked too and they eat well also. Stay safe and thanks for taking us along today. Fred.
  • The duckweed is bitter sweet, the first video I watched of yours was you trying to feed it to the animals! Been hooked ever since.
  • @bobflores
My dad only used barbless hooks in his pond. He didn't like to eat fish but he loved to catch them. So, his pond was primarily a catch and release. He didn't mind us catching the fish and eating them. He wouldn't partake. The "BamaBass" channel has a lot of info on raising fish in fishing ponds.
  • @lescoe
Try sanding behind the manifold, and use some thermal grease. Turn the cabinet into a heat sink.
  • Hello Rebecca and Evan. There is a youtube channel that built a pond, and goes through the problems you're having also. His solutions are great and successful. Check him out at Bamabass if you're not familiar already. There's even a version of carp that WON'T reproduce that will eat away the weed. All of which he tries out and recommends 😉😎
  • I have a windmill with a air pump on it works great no problem in ten years just lubricate once a year
  • I skimmed out my duckweed with a trash pump and a homemade skimmer and haven't had any since. If you remove the duckweed, you're also removing a lot of the excess nutrients that allow the duckweed to grow in the first place. www.youtube.com/shorts/HeuY4HItgLc
  • Having any fish at all, no matter the size, is encouraging. And Rebekah, you should tweek the flip-flop haters and go barefoot.
  • I’ve had the same issue and have replaced with brass fittings as well.
