I see Boston Dynamics decided "The big dog is good, but you know what would be better? A bigger dog!"
  • @georgesulea
Very cool. I always felt that multi-legged mechs were underrated.

The sirocco is my signature mech, all my friends know me for running one, I use it as an anchor for my force, its always at the center, escorted by barghest and scorpions, and I usually rock rotweiler and fenrir battle armor with it, and occasionally tarantulas as skirmishers.

I had a stupendous dice roll with my Zeus Slingshot Gauss H.C. It was a HEADSHOT!

Ok, this has gone truly crazy, imagine when you are playing Mechwarrior on-line, suddenly a 4 legged mech showed up with a red mark on it, then, what do you do next?
  • @alluringming
They look like better more practical designs than the At-At from star wars. Always love watching your battletech videos.

A Sirocco lumbers onto the battlefield... "Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini starts playing.

I adore the Goliath. It was my first big boy mech. The 3050 upgrade is my all time favorite, but I may take a look at the heavy ppc or RAC variant. I used to love squishing toads with this sucker back in the day. Its movement profile makes it a slippery bastard even though the only thing that move slower than it is an Urbie, and top soil. In city fighting particularly. Mine has head capped so many mechs in its career. Usually promptly blowing up afterwords, but hey details.

Biggest weakness a water boy armed with a grappling gun.

''Hey, you saw what happened in the Empire strikes back! those things where ugly and stupid on four legs. ..Now get me a Yoeman!''
  • @Dariushellstrome
I've always liked 4 legged mechs, I know they aren't the greatest in combat but I have thought the legs should provide better support for heavier weapons, but with a penalty to piloting since people are used to walking on 2 legs and translating the balance through the neuro helmet should reflect that more

Oh no. Oh no. These physically pain me -- the Goliath looks like someone took an MBT and strapped it to a quad-legged mech. It's got all the weight of an Assault with none of the guns! All the negatives of quad machines, and none of the benefits, it's amazing! At least the engineers responsible for the Sirocco remembered to bring GUNS that time.

I once baught something similar as a Revell Robotech Model, back in the 80's. Was a fun build.
  • @Shadow-Kalbo1
Thanks for another great video This is the first time I've heard of these mechs
  • @lopezmarlon
Cool thing about 'Quads is that you can actually kick like a mule 🐎 or punch twice. 🏃‍♀️👊🤜. They can all go prone to make the 'Mechs harder to hit 💥 or extend the height to get a +1 to range on all weapons. Lateral movement was neat, because moving slightly to the left ⬅️ or right ➡️ didn't cost a movement point. In the old rules you are allowed a a torso turrent ↩️↪️

The biggest threat to this battlemech is Disney's legal department or T-47 Snowspeeders
  • Thank you for covering the Goliath! I adore this 'Mech and the original's CRAB-by aesthetic. ;) (Bonus points if you grt the reference Grimdark.)

I don’t really get the rationale for the design. I’d say it was so that it could carry twice the weapons and armor as a standard mech at the same ground pressure (or less since technically they could creep along moving only one leg at a time). The trade off would be a poor turning radius and larger target profile and cost. But they have LESS weaponry. It’s like the designers didn’t really think it through all the way.
