    I remember beginning my weight loss journey a few years ago and counting calories. I was shocked and also disappointed with how much I was eating a day especially in fats alone. This video is great

    2:20 to elaborate a little here: both concoctions are essentially all sugar, but coke is MASSIVELY more unhealthy than milk. It's not so much about the nutrients (most in developed counties get enough nutrients from solid foods, though this becoming decreasingly true), as it is about the types of sugar in each beverage, and the quantities. Milk is mostly Lactose sugar, which is broken down into blood glucose veeeeeeeery slowly. Coca-Cola is a comically large amount of Sucrose sugar. Sucrose sugar is transformed into blood glucose incredibly quickly. This results in a dumb, massive spike in blood pressure and blood glucose levels that would normally be impossible had the human species not mastered condensing sugar as much as possible. The dose makes the poison, or whatever. Over time these ridiculously high blood glucose levels will make your cardiovascular system fail.

    As you perfectly mentioned towards the end of the video, it's not only about calories, it's about how nutritious (in term of both macronutrients and micronutrients) that food/drink is.

    What I like about counting calories is that bad behavior is punished right away. Like yesterday I decided I didn't want a healthy breakfast so I ate crepes. They were delicious, but not exactly filling. So today I'm eating better so I'm not hungry again. Because of this, I don't need cheat days, I just have days where I'm full and days when I'm less full, but I satisfied my craving, so it's worth it. The days where I eat less healthy end up encouraging me to eat healthier later, not discouraging me by making me feel like a failure. Whereas with diets where I had to only eat certain foods, if crepes aren't on the menu, they'll NEVER be on the menu, which makes me sad and unsatisfied and more likely to eventually cheat.

    1:12 - Sigh, no. that's a "small" calorie. The caloric value on food is always in "big" calories, or kcal (kilo calories), which is the amount of energy required to heat 1 kilogram of water by 1 degree celsius. (Not an exact definition because there are other variables in there, but mostly true in normal scenarios) If the definition presented in the video was true then a daily diet of 2000 calories would only be enough to heat about 2kg of your body weight by 1C, which is obviously a nonsensically small amount of energy.
