Gunnery Bug - Superfiring Turrets Are Inaccurate

Another day, another new gunnery bug. Turns out WGs gunnery coding is too lazy to take into account height differences of the turrets on the hulls of ships, which means any superfiring turret is shooting too high, this is especially obvious at close ranges. Discovered by Hagostaeldmann on reddit.

    If someone thinks WG intentionally added this in an attempt to simulate something realistic, save your shitty argument. It's clearly just lazy coding. It's not a gun depression issue, it's not a height-over-bore issue (which wouldn't even apply to a fire control system that is gimbaled independently). It's a game where the gunnery is left clicking the mouse on ships with health bars, but the guns don't go where you aim, this is a clear bug.     since the CVs will be capable of manually controling their turrets, this bug will be fixed in no time cant have the vulnerable class even more unusable

    At close range, the gunnery breaks down. At long range, the gunnery breaks down. Around islands, the gunnery breaks down. With different turrets, the gunnery breaks down. With lock-on, at random, the gunnery breaks down. What even IS working with gunnery anymore? Soon, "accurate guns" means the shells are hitting the same map square as the aiming point.

    On the other side: the game is compensating itself for shells landing short, by landing some shells high for you. How considerate.

    Whenever we were speaking with Developers here in Russia back in the days, when they were much more open to a public, we were asking them: "Why You won`t make a different caliber guns or, at very least, same caliber but different barrel lengh guns?" (Kawachi had wing turrets armed with 305/45 guns while forward and aft - 305/50mm) The answer was that, in reality, all ships are armed with just 1 gun situationed amidst ship which can then shoot through a mounts that are spread around the ship with reload set up for different mount. Thus ship can always have just 1 gun characteristic wise. The answer aligns with this bug astoundingly

  • Now I understand why half my shells at close range end hitting the deck armor when aiming at the citadel.. WG spaghetti code rides again.

    Well, seeing stuff like this gives me a warm fuzzy that the 37 different changes WeeGee is making for the CV/AA/airplane spotting re-rework won't cause any issues.

    1. I imagine Atlanta has it extra rough as it has 3 levels of main battery guns. As if that ship needed yet another nerf. I image the best way to "account" for this bug is to memorize your turret heights, and use single or volley fire and readjust your elevation between each shot... mega dumb... but possible.

    hey member there was a tiny mouse who used to run around and spot all of that as the free quality control check of WG? That is before they managed to "sack" someone they didn't employ. If you ask me that required some talent

    Many ships have the back turret(s) mounted lower than the front guns, and one assumes this affects them as well. This explains sooooo much.
