Two architectural graduates, taking their hard earn knowledge and turning it into a stellar performance of creativity and structural integrity!

UMA is truly going to be the most unique sailboat on the seas! There will be others out there who will claim “custom built”, but how many will TRULY be customized… designed, engineered and built by the owners own hands, AFTER spending close to 10 years with various iterations of her?? I can’t think of any other boat that will have had THIS level of love, attention to detail, demanding quality… you two are absolutely amazing and inspirational for tackling this labour of love!!! Sailing UMA has always been the beacon for sailing channels, the one to aspire to be like, and I’m betting when she’s complete, UMA will be the envy of MANY MANY MANY sailors and landlubbers alike!! As always, GREAT bloody work Kika and Dan‼️Simply off the charts! 🤠👍🏼☮️

I promise you that the manufacturer did not line those bulkheads up that well. You are building a whole boat inside your boat! Very impressive!

I am also impressed. I thought at one time it was way too big of a job for 2 young kids to take on. You didn't have experience in boat building and didn't know how to get this work done. I was afraid you wouldn't make it as a couple when times get tough and it was taking too much time for such a big project. I thought one or both of you would get overwhelmed with the task. You both have surprised me, not too many would still be motivated and thrilled to see the daily progress you two show. Kika you are doing an amazing job; you sometimes lack confidence in yourself, but you shouldn't because you are doing an amazing job with the build, not to mention you can sail a large sailboat to the Arctic with no problem. Keep up the good work both of you, this old grandma in Holland, Michigan is very proud of you both and admires your work ethic.

Here we all are enjoying watching paint, er, fiberglass dry. How the heck can these two make it interesting? I think it's their enthusiasm over the entire process. And "All hail the algorithm!"

This week on "This Old Boat" Master Craftsman Dan will weld water to the exterior of the hull to increase stability by 10%, but first, he will create a new welding technology...😊. I look forward to every episode.

This is my favourite part. I can't wait to see the plan come together, it's such a satisfying feeling watching an empty space turn into a liveable space. Never mind the sailing, I could just watch a channel where you two continuously build boats....

Starts looking like the inside of a boat again, not just a hull.

So often I've seen work done shoddily simply because of the grim determination to get the job done. It is very refreshing to see people putting great effort into making the job the best it can be, by sacrificing "easy". Your efforts will pay off and you'll have an awesome new Uma!

I'm going to miss these build videos when they are done, but, man I can't wait to see the new Uma.

I'm guessing that the rest of the bulkhead will be laminated so as to keep it waterproof and therefore rigid when wet . It would mean the boat would be salvageable if it ever capsized . Just a resin coat before everything is covered . Great job ! You both have skills and determination !

Some amazing progress this week! While you guys are in this stage don't forget to add chase ways for wiring and plumbing, future you will thank you for doing it now!

I’m continually impressed with your skills and tenacity as we get to see your vision of the new Uma emerge.
