coming at you with a long(er) + rambly(er) video this week to share a little insight to on how i sell my clothes — online/apps, in person, and by mail. after 10+ years of doing this, i've gotten pretty savvy and strategic about what, where, and when to sell different items, and how to determine when it's better off to just donate.

i'm 100% positive i forgot ~something~ so please comment your tips + experiences below. as always, thanks for watching 💚(up next week: beauty declutter!)

  • Depop is so easy and simple to use. I just made one last week and I’ve already sold 6 items and made around £80. The stressful part is finding equipment to package my items 😭
  • I'd sure love to see you do a video that explains everything from start to finish. (How do you decide the price you charge for each item, how do you keep track of everything, do you package everything at home and take it to the shipper each day or something different, how do you decide how much to keep as your profit vs. money you save back to then put back into buying more clothes and shoes to "flip" or "turn around".) I'd really love to see a video that goes over the business side of it all - IN DETAIL.
  • Plato's Closet is unreal with their lowballing amounts that they are willing to give you for your nicer items too... blows my mind what they will give you - almost insulting.
  • I fell in love when you did a breakdown of the video at the beginning. Ahh the organization 🦀🦀❤️❤️❤️
  • No one ever talks about how to advertise clothes you can’t fit or if you don’t want to be photographed at all.
  • The main issue I encounter is that it just takes so freakin' long to actually list an item of clothing (taking multiple pictures and selecting the best 10-12, uploading those pictures to Dropbox, saving those pictures to my computer, and then uploading those pictures onto the website, not to mention taking measurements and entering the brand, materials, features, etc., and then deciding pricing, and finally eventually shipping), and it just isn't worth the time for low-dollar items that could only fetch a couple bucks to begin with. It's worth it for expensive items, but for cheap items, the ROI just isn't worth it (especially if you're doing well financially and your time has a high opportunity cost). Even if the shirt is great, if the buyer already has to pay shipping, the total price they're willing to pay could mean you're only able to sell the item for a few bucks, and that's after upwards of an hour's worth of work spent taking pictures, creating the listing, and shipping the item out (an hour might sound long, but that's about how long it took for me to create a high-quality listing for a leather jacket today). I could just donate all my clothing, but then I feel like I'm just throwing hundreds of dollars away, and I'm selfish enough to rather just keep the clothes unused in my closet than donate them at that big of a loss (massive poverty complex from my childhood). I wish I could give them away to friends and family, but that's just not an option. So I'm stuck with a couple hundred dollars' worth of clothing that would take dozens of hours to list and ship (basically netting me minimum wage, which is not a productive use of my time). It's definitely a privilege to have this sort of problem, but for a relatively high-income frugal semi-hoarder, it's a frustrating one. I feel like I'm stuck with this clothing that I have no reason to keep but also no sufficiently compelling incentive to get rid of...aside from the fact that it's taking up valuable and increasingly scarce space in my house.
  • I've watched so many of these but your video is by far the most thorough. You cleared up a lot of my confusion on the various platforms. 😊
  • starting watching your videos with your apartment tour because I'm moving into a studio apartment... now I'm watching your closet cleaning videos to procrastinate cleaning my own closet before I move into said studio 😆

here during quarantine to sell my clothes
  • First time to your channel. You provided an organized & great overview on selling, platforms & how-to's. I subbed and liked & will definitely recommend to my friends!
  • 5 seconds in and I'm a follower. You have a softer voice and not loud and well obnoxious like most youtubers. Stay classy. Bc other youtuber try to hard in my opinion.
  • Thank you for having this video for EVERYONE and stating it

Thanks for the tips! So helpful! I’m excited to start selling my clothes now 😊 One question I had hoped you would explore is when to decide if you’d like to label an item as “free” shipping or charge for shipping? Do you have a preference or notice a trend in the marketplace in terms of shipping?
  • @layesgirl
WOW WELL DONE VIDEO!!!! love, love love your information and really appreciate all the work you put into this video.
  • Hi Carrie, this video came so in handy. At the beginning of August I did a good decluter on my wardrobe and I would love to sell some never worn pieces. Thanks for sharing your tips! Now I need to sort out how I'm going to sell them because in Portugal it's a bit different. Thank you and have a good weekend! 😊😙
  • Loooove how organized the video is! Thank you!
