A violent eruption of Mount Semeru on 4 December 2021 sent a pyroclastic flow rushing down its slopes for record 19 km.
A big explosion collapsed the mountain's lava dome, sending the observers running for their lives as deadly pyroclastic flows rushed down.
As pyroclastic flows raced down several river beds, they mixed with rain to create powerful lahars ranging rivers of debris that swept down the slopes of the volcano.

    Now you know what it was like when Mount Saint Helens erupted if you were standing on the north side… just faster.
  • It would scare me to see a pyro flow coming out of the ash cloud. Unable to see your doom, not until it is right on top of you. Scary lahar at the end
