When I was growing up, we sang the entire Birchat Hamazon. We sang it at school and had competitions to see which table could sing it fastest (and bang the loudest). We sang it at home with my 2 sisters and my parents weaving harmonies. We sang it at shul after kiddush. And yet, for all the times that we sang it, it never occurred to me to look up which psalm Shir Hamalot is.

Upon doing the captions for this video, I realized that it is my favorite psalm. Psalm 126 has deep meaning for me. I wrote a song based on it 5 years ago when I was really struggling with my circumstances. The metaphor of weeping while sowing seed and joyfully harvesting it has defined large periods of my life. God is faithful never to let anything go to waste. He even uses our tears to water our seeds as we sow them and bring the coming harvest.

Here's a little taste of what benching sounded like growing up. From my table to yours, amen. 🙌
