My cat did this to me all the time as a child, especially whenever I had math homework (my least favorite subject, one that bored me senseless). It's as though he knew how much I hated math and thus refused to let me endure the boredom of solving fractions; instead he spread himself out on top of my papers, and purred to his heart's content, demanding I pay attention to him instead. I miss him, cats can be so aware of what you're feeling and have a solution prepared (even if it's usually sitting on top of what's bothering you lmao).

My family cat would do this all the time while I was a kid growing up. I think they do this because they missed the kids all day and now that they have a chance they demand the attention they missed during the day.
