Hey everyone!

Yeah, this is a fairly sensitive subject to do a lesson on, but oh well. We only have one life to live. The title says it all. Hopefully, it makes sense and doesn't leave you in the dark, with regards how to tackle whatever issues you may face with your bass soloing abilities.

  • Anthony thanks for teaching me and helping me improve my bass guitar. Made significant progress since over a year I came across your channel

Beast of a player, beast of a teacher🤦🏾‍♂️ every time i come to your channel i find myself with some knew knowledge, inspiration, or both❗️
  • Thanks for your considered insights. I enjoy your lessons.
  • I personally don’t find bass solos boring but I grew up listening to guys like Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Paul Chambers and Eddie Gomez. But it could be the low register, sometimes low volume or drummers who step down n bass solos that have contributed to the idea of the “boring bass solo”.
  • Hi Anthony, I've been away for a while but nice video. 👍...another problem I find is that some bass players play all slap solos that may attract an audience for a short while but unless you are Marcus Miller or Victor Wooten these solos get tired after a while and most pay little attention to harmony. I'm no where in your league but lots of times simply playing single notes of the chord shapes or chord tones mixed in with a major or minor scale. Or playing the corresponding modes.
  • @acprado67
Slaps is a trap during solos! Slap makes you concentrate in rythm and, as you said, you end up changing the intention to grooving, not to scales/harmony. No to mention the position of arm and fingers... when you turn to solo again, you offen already lost the concentration
  • There. someone finally said it. solos are boriing because with 5 and 6 strings its become a thing. Most bass solos they stay above the 12th fret and the low end drops out. I'm flummoxed why solos dont include more low notes. To your point, a more holistic melody approach.
  • "Provided these functions are carried by the rest of the band" is the problem. With very rare exceptions, they aren't. You have to keep performing the same functional role because nobody else picks it up. Playing interesting lines is great in the right context, but it just sounds like random noodling (except possibly to other musicians) when nobody is providing the groove and harmony. Non-boring bass solos depend on the rest of the band picking up the slack.
