Could somebody please help me out with this one. If you know that there is a lot of turmoil and wars and bad things going on with different countries, then why do people still go there knowing that there's a chance that they're going to take you prisoner because of either who you are or where you're from. Then you expect your country to get you out, when you knew that this could happen when you decided to go there in the first place. Then people want to get mad at their country for not getting that person out. Well, you knew that this could happen, so why go there? Anybody want to explain this to me?

keep pleading his case to the state department - best of luck

Well technically he is legally detained, according to Russian law. So probably a different tactic is needed.

How ungrateful!!! A lot of strings have to be pulled and he, like the rest of them, shouldn't have been there in the first place. If you want the government to bring him home, stop slamming their efforts. Paul Whelan was there for almost 6 years. I'm sorry for your agony but saying the government doesn't care is not helping your cause and is disrespectful to those who have made it home. Yoy have no idea what it takes to get the Americans out of their own, self imposed situation. Be thankful you live in a country that will do all it can. You could be living in a country that considers him collateral damage. Wise up!!!!!
