Fun Fact: If Nickelodeon allowed swearing in their series, Avatar the last airbender’s dialogues would be longer just because of Toph

they forgot the fact that gaara can use more jutsu than just sand-based ones, he can use wind, earth, and lightning release (although earth release wouldn't do much against an earthbender)

I feel like death battle really puts two characters with the same x factor ability (IE controlling earth) without much regard for the fact that one combatant can move faster than sound while the other is a 12 year old normal-ish human physically

Toph won because Gaara got stuck in a flashback filler season.

Ok, let me tell you why that's bullshit (THIS IS LONG) 1. Gaara's sand is infused with both his own chakra and he also has the sand infused by his mother. Toph isn't bending regular sand so to assume she can just use and redirect it like normal and doesn't make sense. It's basically controlling someone else, so it would fall under the category of bloodbending which is extremely hard to master and takes years of practice.  2. Gaara's chakra reserves are massive due to the fact that he was born already being a jinchuriki He has enough chakra to fight in the majority of the 4th Great Ninja war without a break. he wouldn't run out for a while and absolute defense isn't dependent on his chakra and doesn't run out when he runs out meaning that it would still protect him. 3. Also Gaara doesn't keep his sand armor on 24/7 anymore since shippuden, it only if he needs to use it to conserve his chakra 4. As for Toph surviving the giant sand burial, the metal would have not fully protected her. When Gaara did the same to Kimimaro, he survived because his bones were stronger than tempered steel along with the fact that he had the curse mark to add to his durability, the metal Toph was using would most likely dent, crushing her. 5. Toph can see all of Gaara's attacks yes, but if she cannot react to them then there is no point. Gaara sand was fast enough to keep up with Rock Lee back in Naruto and it has only gotten faster since then, Toph has never shown speed even close to Lee in Naruto, so she definitely would not be able to keep up with Gaara from shippuden since he was able to stop the raikage mid attack when he was about to attack sasuke. 6. Gaara can make sand clones to throw Toph off since she would have no way of knowing who was the real Gaara. 7. Toph isn't known for taking hits too well, she's more of a glass cannon, though she is very powerful, her body int as sturdy as the rock she bends. A few good hits would end her. 8. Giving Toph Gold dust doesn't add to her power in anyway 9. Even if Toph could bend all of his sand and keep up with the speed, which we proved she can't without practicing bending sand infused with chakra, spirit, ect. she in no way has the speed required to react, dodge or direct the attack. Also keep in mind that Gaara is a decent tactician, he was the one who found out he could pull Madara from his Susano'o, he would be able to last long enough to find out what Toph was doing Toph is a beast don't get me wrong, but Gaara is just out of her league.

I see why a lot of people disagree on that one. Especially since the skukaku didn't show up, and Gaara is a Shinobi with more abilities than just sand bending. The grand sand mausoleam, for example, is a sealing justsu which should one shot her. Edit: If we take Boruto into account, Gaara's Taijutsu skills are explicitly stated to be on par with Naruto's and he can keep up with Ototsuki so... yeah he melts

Gaara has definitely built a more intimidating reputation. He’s portrayed as a ruthless monster, especially in the earlier episodes of naruto. If your put up against gaara. You know your in trouble. Even if you are a higher ranking than him. He never goes down easy.

My man is capable of reacting to amateratsu,block village level explosions, cover a whole forest of sand, fly wherever he wants. but he loses to a child with some rocks.

Toph must be a saltbender as well.

Now that I've actually seen gara in Naruto, I see why many got mad when he lost

If any match needs a rematch it’s this one. It’s not even that Toph won, it’s that Gaara had to be dumbed down to lose. He watches Toph bend earth, she tells him she can sense his sand, and he decides to… keep throwing it at her. He still uses sand armor after this? He decides the best course of action is to lock himself in a sand dome against someone who could’ve just created a pit under him? Brain power at 0. He watched her survive sand coffin and thought it’d work out if he just threw more sand at her? Yeah, okay.
