I feel like my favourite books all share a lot of similar themes and one that always crops up is mommy issues! This video is full of books that explore mother-daughter relationships, generational trauma, and what it means to be a woman.

Let me know what books you'd recommend on this topic!

You don’t know how timely this is! I’ve been working with clients in therapy in addressing their mother wounds and definitely want to incorporate some of these into my work to help them with processing and addressing those relationships! If you have any Father issue reccs….👀👀
  • Funnily enough Katherin Centers "Bodyguard" actually has some underlying mummy issues about the main characters mother who struggled with and ultimately died from her alcoholism and about the abuse both of then suffered from the men in her mothers life. This being a lighthearted romance, it doesn't go super deep into the topics, but I found it to be very relatable in terms of how mummy issues aren't always at the forefront of our everyday but for most of us, me included, simmer beneath the surface and come up when we least expect it.

I had to stop reading Raybearer because the toxic relationship between the main character and her mother hit far too close to home for comfort. 😅
  • I adore your lavender outfit! It fits your calming and enlightening vibe❤

A book I recently read that I think definitely fits with this theme is Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng- so good!!

Amy Tan has lots of mommy issue books, most of which deal with the immigration experience! Her own mother stories are pretty wild, too

I feel so SEEN! Thanks for talking about generational trauma//the experience for children of immigrants//mommy issues…it’s so complex and not talked about enough! I’m trying to break the cycle for my own kid. 🫶🏽

Amazing recommendations! And thank you for your review of A Woman is No Man, I was also crying so much throughout the book and made me understand my mom more. Thank you for creating your book club because I probably would have never found this novel. Also, your shirt is so pretty, lavender looks so nice on you ✨

my recommendation would be “Just for the summer” by Abby Jimenez, despite it being advertised as a cute fun romance, it actually deals with some pretty heavy topics, one of them being mommy issues 😅 it’s a new release and such a delight!
