I'm a professional Auto Body technician and refinisher and I can say with experience if that's your first time you did a great job
  • Thank you for doing a simple fast demo and not wasting our time! Greatly appreciated!

This is the true spirit of DIY. Is it perfect? No. Was it fun? Yes. Did you learn something new? Yes. A lot of us drive cars that is worth fixing up, but not worth the money to have a professional fix up. This is just the reality of life for most people.
  • you actually had the 🏀 🏀’s to make a video for something you never tried before... maaaaaaan i gotta give you a hug, you did a great job without knowing exactly how to go about it and you still made it look good... 👍🏼 👍🏼... great video!!!!!!!!!
  • I immediately noticed that you are not an experienced body repair man. But you are a man. 👍

I have to give you full credit. I do metal finish for restorations BUT on a cheap car, what I learned in 40 years of work was that you need to match the repair to the car. I do a '3 year repair' for cars that I am certain will not make it beyond that time (usually because the owner will kill the car). I got over all snobbishness of a quality repair when a guy brought me an old Volvo 122 that had crappy body work from a PO. I asked him what was the longest he had ever owned a vehicle (in perspective, I have a 1970 Land Rover I bought in 1989 - and own to this day). He said he sells them in 2 years or less. He wanted it looking nice, painted inside and out (to 'look' like a full restoration he said). Well, 2K later and it left with the cheapest smoothed over rust repairs (but great paint) I ever did. He called me three months later and said he crashed the car. He got full insurance payment for it. Sometimes cheap is okay. Sometimes "good enough" is okay. Knowing when those times are takes experience. Not everyone has a shop and metal working tools - and not every car is a restoration project requiring metal finish. So - full points and credit for what you did here. You matched your skills to the car to reality; and made the car look better.
  • I've been a DITY all my life and I'm impressed by your work ethic and "get it done" grit 👍🇺🇸. I like seeing real life 1st Timers videos - honest and authentic real world YouTube's are the best. I'm going to fix my 2007 Taurus - the RH rear wheel well has a rust hole. Cheers!

I love these type of vids where the guy or gal gets right to it and doesn't waste a lot of time with the life story lol Good job 😊 Appreciate everyone's efforts helping the rest of us out...even you guys with the two hour vid that could have been done in 15 mins 😊

Beer cans. Ingenious quick fix to a problem you've never encountered. Bravo. The job came out pretty damn good!
  • @atomicslam1589
Wow....great job for never having done that before. Had that paint matched that would've turned out really well. I think that given the times we live in, and the fact that when it comes to auto work, it seems like EVERYONE is getting screwed (and the job STILL isn't getting done properly).....that we're all learning that if we take the time to learn and invest in some tools, we can do this on our own. Even if we screw it up a few times while we're learning. I just learned how to replace a clutch, and that's nowhere NEARLY as complicated as I thought. DIY is the way to go. Buy a cheap project car like what you have, and that way if you mess it up while you're learning, you don't feel bad. Anyway, great video, and thanks for posting.

the end result turned out nice and i appreciate the positive attitude you had when tackling this on your first attempt. good video editing and time lapses! i'm intimidated myself but got the small kit to try when it warms up a bit. cheers for sharing!

I used to work in a fiber glass factory and I can tell you needed way more resin, then you can shape it how you want. Thanks for giving me the rest of the tips though! Looks good
  • @RARenfield
Good fiberglass work is an art. Just like welding. I'm glad your friend showed up before you completely resin coated that tire. They ride kind of harsh that way.

My uncle was a BODY-SHOP MAN and he used a lot of metal cans, pop cans, etc. to patch holes ( a basic back-support) then used the body putty, sanding, and paint - he took his time and did a very good looking job !!
  • @theboogeyman2229
What a genius move with the can, it looks decent and it will never rust again 😂😂 👏 genuinely impressed im doing this with my chevy
  • You sound like Jesse Pinkman from "Breaking Bad". I was waiting on you to say something like "fiberglass, Bitch!"
  • @binghamhnou
Better than what it looked before. Good job!
  • I have a '09 Accent that I have to do this exact repair. Thank you so much for the information. I think my husband and I will be able to do it ourselves now.

Got a large rust problem on the lip of my trunk lid. Was able to throw a camera up between the two sheets of metal where some wires go in. THANKFULLY the rust hasn’t spread between the metal sheets yet. It’s still just the bent over/welded flange part. But I was super intimidated to fix because I’d have to basically rebuild a part of it like you had to. This video had some great advice. Will definitely keep some beer cans handy. Thanks man!
