No one ever mentions how Metal Sonic is appropriate for a time-travel game with good futures and bad futures because his design is influenced by the Terminator.

I love how the past themes use the sound chip thing for the past themes but the other versions of the songs use proper CD audio to show the past is old. It’s such a weird detail, but it’s so cool.
  • "How did Sonic turn Super in the end? There's no rings." Well, this could imply that the rings are only for gameplay purposes, and Sonic can really just turn Super as long as he has the Emeralds.
  • "Dude...It we're in 1993! Your gonna get a cut scene and your gonna like it!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The Japanese really love that whole "normal guy is secretly a superhero" angle. They did that with some of the Megaman comics/manga too.

Great video! I was an artist on Sonic 2 (Hidden Palace and Oil Ocean), the only difficulties between the American and Japanese team members was Naka. To the best of my knowledge he was the only one who had a problem working with the Americans. After Sonic 2 he threatened to quit (which he did any time he didn’t get his way) if he didn’t get an all Japanese team with their own office.

It was the same thing with Mario: after the huge success of Super Mario bros in 1985, Shigeru and his team develop a sequel but very similar to the first game and more difficult. The game was very appreciated to Japan but, a representative of video game in United States (who loves games from Shigeru Miyamoto) tested it and found it so hard for Occidentals that he adviced them to prevent the release out of Japan in order to not losing the trust that people getting back after the crack of video games. After, Nintendo developped another Super Mario bros 2 (inspired from Doki doki panic) but different from the original with the possibility to control 4 characters and it was a success.

Yeah, Sonic CD does have a lot going for it. Multiple ways to see the true ending, beautiful cut-scenes, emphases on exploration, multiple versions of each stage, introduction of long stay villain Metal Sonic, all and all this was clearly the more ambitious game to follow up the original Sonic game. Maybe I have a little bias considering Sonic 2 was my first ever owned video game, but it is my preference. I love the emphases on speed, level design was top notch, Tails was the perfect long stay companion, Super Sonic was and still is one of the coolest power ups in any video game. It was pure gaming bliss and one I still come back to frequently today. If it weren't for Sonic Mania, Sonic 2 would probably be in my top 10 favorite games of all time.

Sonic CD was definitelly being made right after Sonic 1, the sprites and overall design for the levels almost feels like an extension of Sonic's 1 art.

another underrated sonic youtuber (?). i swear, people like you make youtube a better platform.
  • I never knew Tails as a character was decided on by an internal art contest, that's pretty cool. I wonder if there is any surviving concept art of what the very first sidekick of Sonic could've looked like.

It makes me sad that some people don't realize how amazing amy is and they only see the bad about her.

Finally, another person who actually likes sonic CD. Besides me. Edit: OK, I see that there are sonic CD fans here. I see a lot of people saying that this is the black sheep of the classic sonic games. In fact I thought that sonic CD and sonic 1 was always under sonic 2 and sonic 3&K. Because I see people prefer 2 and 3&K over 1 and CD. But I always treated all of the classic sonic games equally, I have a great time with all of them. I always thought the classics were split into two. Sonic 1 and CD were underrated while sonic 2 and 3&K we're the opposite. But I'm glad people are fans of these nonetheless. I love all these games, which is why I'm excited for sonic orgins. Sorry if this is kinda long for an edit, lol.

I’m so glad someone likes Sonic CD as much as I do for all the same reasons! I know most people objectively like Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles most and I totally understand and see why, but CD just really spoke to me personally with the story, music, aesthetics, and the ambition of the level designs, it has a really special place in my heart :)

Finally! A great video explaining the differences between Sonic 2 and CD in a very interesting and humorous way!
