I’m not crying... it’s just... there’s rain and I don’t have an umbrella.
  • The Umbrella is the symbolism of shelter...Shelter of family, shelter of home, shelter of hope, shelter of life, shelter from disappointments and much more....!

Holding on to an umbrella was a memory of the past that provided him hope to live. He felt that letting go of an umbrella will take his soul away from him. All his life, all he needed was someone to hold onto but not the object associated with someone.

I live next to an orphanage ..... they are all such playful happy children , I can’t believe so few people adopt . I will . When I grow up , I will adopt at least one child .

Kid wants more than an umbrella. He wants what every kid desires but few receive. At least he lived a long life w/ girl who still loves him/ that’s a dream for many adults.

This movie told us everything without telling a word.
  • Well that made me cry and feel so sad for the children and parents that are parted because of circumstances they have no control over. It's heartbreaking.

I don't blame the little girl for being mad at Joseph for taking the umbrella. She's already giving up toys that matter to her even if she doesn't play with them anymore because they hold good memories, so the theft of the umbrella is just aggravating the feelings already there. Empathy isn't always an in-born ability, and she only just realized it's a good thing when she saw the orphans treasuring the toys like she had done. But it didn't connect to her that the umbrella can have the same effect in a person with an even deeper reason to want it then simply playing with it.

I live inside an orphanage, since I’m homeless and wandering around streets, this film has been a great inspiration to me in search of my father who left to get the milk. The animation along with the storyline is amazing. When I grow up, I would adopt myself to escape this orphanage in north korea

I was moved by this. I remember when I was in 1st-3rd grade my dad used to walk me to school and also came to get me after classes. I would still remember how we would teach me the "stop, look and listen" song and also shared many memories while walking. During my 4th grade I told my dad that I wanted to walk on my own now. There was one time that I forgot to take my umbrella with me. That afternoon, rained poured and I was so worried that I can't go home but there was my dad, he came with another umbrella with his hand. That was one of the moments in my life that I cannot forget. Sadly, my dad passed away when I was in 7th grade. Now, everytime that it rains, I would remember that memory of my dad with his umbrella. I miss him so much. ☔☔😭😭😭

please be kind to everyone. you don't know what the person has gone through.

in the description it says '....dreams of having a yellow umbrella', but no, he dreams of his fathers love and the umbrella is its symbol. Haunting tale of a love he yearns for but cannot find.

My teacher showed us this during lunch break and I cried because of my 5 years old self backstory: my dad said he has to go to work and will continue. E back in a few days. Days turn to weeks. Weeks turn to months. And months turn to years yet my dad never came back. It led to my abandonment trauma that made me cry. Ever since that loss I always wanna come with my mom if she goes out

I cannot imagine how his father must have felt when he left his son at the orphanage.. To be so desperate that the only hope you see for your son is to leave him. The emotional toll it must have on both father and son :(
  • @kennethsalar
Why am I crying. We really don't know how to react to somebody when we don't know the story behind it so that is why we should all be kind to one another.

When you have something stolen by someone, it's probably because that thing is a thousand times more important to them than the actual value you own. You can give someone a small thing of yours, but for them it is a big thing, even changing their life. Life steals something valuable from you, at the same time it gives back something else special. In short, our mission is to give, not to save what has been lost
