No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies - Twelve Days of Christmas Day #4 - works every time!

No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup Hershey’s Cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups Quick Cooking Oats

Before you begin, have all the ingredients out and measured because this moves fast and you won’t have time to measure as you go. Also, put a long sheet of parchment paper or wax paper on the counter to scoop the cookies onto.

In a large saucepan, allow the butter to melt over low heat. While that is slowly melting, sift together the sugar and cocoa, removing any lumps that might be in it. Once the butter is melted, stir in the sugar/cocoa mixture and the milk. Turn up the heat to medium and begin stirring constantly. Cook and stir until the mixture reaches a full rolling boil. As soon as it comes to a full rolling boil, start your timer for two minutes exactly. As soon as the mixture has boiled for exactly 2 minutes, remove from the heat and add the peanut butter and vanilla. Stir quickly to melt the peanut butter. Immediately add the oats and stir constantly for one more minute, or just until it loses its glossy shine. Scoop spoonfuls onto the parchment paper and allow to cool and harden.

The only problem I've ever had with these cookies, is I can't stop eating them. They are addictive!
  • I just pour my mixture into an 8x8 parchment lined dish, let it cool completely, then cut it into 1x1 inch squares. So much easier then dropping by spoon fulls!
  • We call these "Jimmy cookies" at my house, after my brother who dearly loved these. He would make a batch at any time of day or night. We lost Jimmy at 34 years of age, so your video brought tears to my eyes.
  • My favorite cookie, I could eat the whole batch by myself. I loved watching Momma Joyce, she is missed.
  • I watched Mama Joyce for years and was also watching through her illness. She was such a witness for the Lord and I know she is in Heaven now. It was so nice of you to talk about her and her recipe. Her son Marshall has a channel now and I hope he sees your video. I know it would warm his heart. ☺️ I am going to try to make these again. Our grand kids will love them. You and your wife are a great team. ❤

I was born in 1952, me, my Mom and her niece went to the State Fair of Texas together when I was 6 years old. I remember sitting on a grassy area called the Esplanade. We made these cookies to take with us to enjoy. Then, I made these and won a first place ribbon for these in 4th grade for 4-H. Such good memories. I'm enjoying your videos.

I've not made them for 70 years but I have made them for 60 plus years. They were my husbands favorite cookie. mary

I too gave up on making these dark evil mounds of sugar. 50+ years I tried. I was FINALLY able to make them when I saw a youtuber make some with a THERMOMETER!!! 230° is the sweet spot. Hallelujah! I finally made a perfect batch of no bake cookies 2 months ago!! Someone earlier mentioned putting them in a pan and cutting them. I'll try it that way next. Thanks for the video!
  • Mom used to make these for us kids all the time in fact was my brothers favorite. Mom used evaporated milk in these cookies.
  • I couldn’t make peanut butter fudge until I recently found Alton Brown’s recipe. Delicious
  • A cookie in each hand, Melissa, is called a "balanced diet" 😁

I loved watching Mama Joyce. She was so sweet. My heart 💔 was broken when she passed. I'm so glad her son Marshall continued cooking her dishes for everyone. I love watching him also. Your channel reminds me of the 2 of them so sweet and caring. I'm thankful I found your channel. Y'all are one of my favorite channels to watch.
  • LOVE WHEN MELISSA ADDS IMPUT THANKS FOR THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS GREAT IDEAS
  • Memories are bittersweet when you miss someone during the holidays but cooking together was the sweet part. Made these with my mom. I’m enjoying each video! The presentation, the banter, the humor and the way you welcome everyone into your kitchen. I wonder how many people will be enjoying having you in their kitchens this Christmas as well. I know we will! May God bless you both!
  • My very favorite cookie. I made it for my first recipe in the first grade. I added it my school cookbook. It was 4 pages of yellow construction paper with 3 hole punches and red yarn. I still have it over 50 years later. I love Miss Joyce. My heart broke as she fought to live in the end. Truly a wonderful lady.

I to this day I make a lot of Momma Joyce’s cooking and yes she was a wonderful and kind and godly woman. So miss her stories when she worked and having the test 😂 She do the thumbs up. I truly miss her and think of her when I cook something of hers.❤The cookies are so good and when I have them ,brings back memories being a kid😊 Thanks Tom

My mom got this recipe from her sister about 60 years ago. Just one problem: it said "bring to a boil, but do not boil." We used spoons until we figured out it needs at least a full minute to boil. They still go really fast at church potlucks.😊
  • I’ve been making these for at least 40 years. I don’t cook mine as long and use a half cup peanut butter. I learned years ago that one of the keys to making these is to always use the same pan. The thickness of the pan makes a difference in how long to cook them. My mom could never make them turn out either and she was a great cook. Great cookies with a big glass of milk!
