Just FYI: The cartridges that you get in the box that come with the printer are not actually full size normal cartridges, but sample ones. They have about 1/3 the ink stored in them as opposed to a regular cartridge. That's not to mention the XLs. Edit: I worked at Staples for a time, and always mentioned this to customers so they didn't have any false expectations.
  • That automatic newspaper printing is like something out of a 60s sci-fi story. Awesome review by the way!

Did i just watch, and enjoy, a video about a printer?

The only thing that worries me about this printer is all the moving parts. Generally the more moving parts, the more things to break down. I counted at least 3 items that didn't need to be motorized: the paper tray, the touch screen panel and the printed pages output tray. Of course, it does add to the "coolness" factor. :)

"hang on mom, playin angry birds on the printer"

Good to see that HP haven't abandoned the cartridges with the printing head built in for standard printers, having the head clog up is something that has put me off Epsons for life. See-through scanner is a nice novelty.

2021 and I'm still using my Envy 120 printer. I just love the way it looks. I'll probably keep using it until it dies.

Well, for the third time in two years, I've purchased something as a result of this channel. This really is a gorgeous device, and I'm loving the fact that you don't need to walk across the room to prepare it for printing, or that the top sheet of paper can't get dusty and print poorly if the printer has been idle for a while. The only thing I really don't like about it, is the fact that the heavy glass scanner lid does not have a damped hinge. But apart from that, nice find Matt.
  • Wow. I still have my HP and Kodak printer from 10 years ago and still running perfect. I bought them in 2007 and use to do alot of photo printing, now I just print documents.

How does the saying goes? Something like: Bic pen: ink in plastic, 50 cents Printer cartridge: ink in plastic, 50 dollars
  • It's been a long time since I've purchased a new printer but a couple of notes (based on my preferences and usage) 1. Favorite printers have been HP PSC models. Front loading and ejection (space saving), squareish design. I have gotten them at goodwill. 2. I like the double sided. Saves a lot of work when reproducing printed works (manuals, instructions, etc) 3. I don't like the paper loading system. I print a lot of stuff on the blank backs of used paper (i.e. one at a time). It seems that the feed system would be a pain in that case. 4. I would worry that the mechanized feeder system is an additional thing to break, making an otherwise good printer useless. 5. Writing this in 2022, it is probably no longer available.

I bought a smaller version to this a few years ago and it was the easiest install and use printer i ever bought (and had tested about 7 other printers before including 2 other hp ones)

I made the move to Laser printers a couple of years ago and never looked back, nice review though.

Clever idea to have a glass lid & the scanner on top, so you can see exactly what you're scanning before you scan it.
  • @frollard
Yes, but will it blend? Great review as always!
  • @geligapictures
its 2016, i watched this video 3 years ago now i am still fascinated and envy about your printer!
  • @MrCheesetastic
My only issue with this product since owning one is scanning anything that is relatively thick in dimension (e.g. books). The glass lid will not sit flat which can result in some out of focus scanning on one side of the page due to the angle. Double sided printing is good, ideal for printing the occasional document of text. It is very easy to use. I worked out cost per page is about 6p per page. Not enough to make me rage, but I can fortunately expense the occasional cartridge through work when working from home. Another nice feature is this unit is easy to keep clean and dust, something I hate with some other printers that collect dust in crevices. This is a stylish unit and I recommend. A great review Techmoan!
