Wagner: Preludes and Overtures, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sir Georg Solti

I was at this concert when I was a student at Northwestern. My biggest memory was feeling my chair vibrate when the brass played at "fortissimo"! :D

It's always about the brass!!! This is a brilliant concert and the Vinyl LP in Decca's Full Frequency Sterephonic Sound - which I've had since it first came out - is just stunning, as is the CD transfer. The horns in the Die Meistersinger Prelude are just phenomenal! Have these masterpieces by Wagner ever sounded better? Thanks for posting this!

I always loved the CSO from my young days, I discovered Fritz Reiner and on down the years since! Solti’s Wagner is superb!

Mr. Still, Mr. Peck, Mr. Herseth, Mr. Clevenger, Mr. Jacobs, Mr. Elliot, all sadly passed. Incredibly, Mr. Friedman on trombone is still playing with the orchestra at 85!
