  • I was at this concert when I was a student at Northwestern. My biggest memory was feeling my chair vibrate when the brass played at "fortissimo"! :D

It's always about the brass!!! This is a brilliant concert and the Vinyl LP in Decca's Full Frequency Sterephonic Sound - which I've had since it first came out - is just stunning, as is the CD transfer. The horns in the Die Meistersinger Prelude are just phenomenal! Have these masterpieces by Wagner ever sounded better? Thanks for posting this!
  • I always loved the CSO from my young days, I discovered Fritz Reiner and on down the years since! Solti’s Wagner is superb!
  • Comfort and heroic feelings of Wagner’s music have a immeasurable profound attraction

  • Thank you so much for sharing this glorious concert. Can't get enough of Maestro Solti and the CSO. His humanity lives on...

Mr. Still, Mr. Peck, Mr. Herseth, Mr. Clevenger, Mr. Jacobs, Mr. Elliot, all sadly passed. Incredibly, Mr. Friedman on trombone is still playing with the orchestra at 85!

Superb - from the time that Solti and the CSO were Number 1 in the world.

Somehow, I still think that Sir John Sargent’s rendering of the same popular Wagner overtures had kept the original tempo.❤

Блискучій, чарівний Вагнер! Дякую за можливість слухати генія!
  • @donaldcurrie7025 Indeed, he was Mephistopheles with a mercurial grin, half-saintly and half-diabolical, and the baton of a genius magician. Student of Bartock, and conductor of the first and greatest complete Ring Cycle. Just the right blend of Hungarian fire and English bonhomie. A most subtle and adroit operator in the scheming world of international music and opera. Absolute distillation and quintessence of the spirit and culture of Mitteleuropa, miraculously translated from the ambience and decadence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire into the hurly-burly of 20th Century modernism. Everything about him is captivating and inspiring, quite unlike that disreputable "court musician of Nazism", Herbert von Karajan. Love, andrea
