Gone Girl redefined the suspense thriller genre when it was released ten years ago, and would go on to sell over a million copies worldwide. Now in 2022, author Gillian Flynn hosted a Gone Girl! cruise with Avalon Waterways through the Danube River in Europe. Naturally, I tried it so you don't have to.

  • Just staring uncomprehendingly at the words “Gone Girl cruise”
  • @GalvanizedArt
I feel like Gillian Flynn just wanted to take a cruise and someone along the the line was like... we could monetize this

As an ex-alcoholic... If you get a plain cola in a 7oz glass with ice, everyone thinks you're drinking bourbon and doesn't question it. I got tired of getting hassled to drink when I went out and this was what I came up with
  • Imagine being an old person looking forward to a cruise that was postponed during the pandemic and then you get shown pictures of dead bodies in a cellar.
  • @cowgrll
I’m just imagining how the poor people who knew nothing about Gone Girl or Gillian Flynn must have felt receiving a note in their room with a bloody handprint and talking about having fun “even if it kills them” 😭
  • Thank you for doing this so we didn't have to. I'd suggest doing an MLM cruise, but we're not sworn enemies.

"dear amanda, use the long sword!" is genuinely so cute if an author i liked wrote that in my book i would cry.
  • It's honestly kinda sweet that you had so many passengers concerned about you traveling alone, like if nothing else you know that people are going to have your back.

Not having a "Girl on the Train" boat cruise is just leaving money on the table. 👧🚂🍸🗡
  • Girl, I was in Vienna and visited this church and there was a tour, i thought "nice! Let's do this!" And before I know it, we're going down to a cellar and looking at some very dead people in open caskets from the 18th century. The guide was so cheerful, like "it's really dry so they are mummified!!!11!!!" It was completely unexpected and was not advertised like this at all.... So it might be an Austria thing

Honestly i love what Amanda does. Not just because shes doing it so we dont have to but specifically because she genuinely seems to love what she does. She’s clearly advanced in planning and events so its right up her alley content and even if it sucks i just feel like she enjoys talking about the experience. Amanda probably has so many stories to tell

If paramore ever does another Paracruise i will put some serious thought into buying tickets to it

When youtube stops being lucrative for you swell, you 100% have a future career as an event consultant/ coordinator. With the amount of reviews you have done at this point for different events of all different types you know what you are talking about
  • The cost is the main reason older people frequent them, they can afford them.. and most people in their 20’s-30’s can barely afford rent. I’m glad you had fun, it sounds interesting. I’d love for you to check out one of the concert cruises, I see them advertised all the time.

Oh would love to be on a Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus themed cruise! It would mean travelling through the Mediterranean sea, Italy and Greece...so I think its definitely a concept with a lot of potential, to make these book themed cruises. Never read/watched Gone Girl, still loved the video. Kudos

I would loooove to get someone like Neil Gaiman on a cruise like this. I would absolutely drop this kind of money on authors who'd be willing to do lecture/teaching/round table sessions like Mary Robinette Kowal, John Scalzi, NK Jemison, people like that. A combination writer/fan retreat could be a really great time.

When is the Swell Entertainment Cruise?
  • @docsmooth
"It's the throat punch that gets people's money". Wise words to live by. It's expensive but it's something you'll remember forever and you only live once.
  • @chloekm7958
I literally was just saying to my hubby the other day that I would never get on a cruise unless it was a river cruise. No thank you to the wide open oceans, yes please to meandering down European rivers.
  • @yeahyeahd
i love that every time i hear about a solo cruiser's experience on a river boat it's that they are temporarily being adopted by worried elderly couples. i think a river cruise would be nice cos i love old people and it seems a lot less daunting than a giant boat in the middle of the ocean with a ton of screaming children. i do wish that they'd try and cater a bit to solo cruisers. there are so many of us who want to go on these things, but can't afford to basically pay for two tickets plus air fare just for ourselves. i don't think just advertising to a younger crowd is enough, i think they need to be marketing towards people who LIKE traveling alone or who don't have people to travel with but still want these really unique experiences. i think they'd be pleasantly surprised by how many of us there are.
