We expected a grand finale, an epic lightsaber battle with the return of Luke Skywalker fighting the darkness of his nephew, Ben Solo. However we received an illusion that demonstrated how powerful Luke Skywalker is, even though he disconnected himself from the force for years, he was able to perform one of the most rarest and powerful force illusion to save the resistance and restore the Rebellion in the galaxy!

One thing I just noticed is Kylo Ren doesn’t see Luke as he is, he sees him how he remembers him, you can tell because his beard is different
  • @thebiggunce
I could use a whole film of old Luke trolling people then just vanishing...
  • @Mystrohan
“Strike me down in anger and I will always be with you. Just like your father.” Luke simultaneously taunting Kyle Ren and telling him he still loves him. What a boss.

The Last Jedi had a ton of problems but you can't deny that this scene was beautifully shot

    "See you around kid."....terrifying. Lol
  • Notice when Kylo moves, the salt moves but when Luke moves, the salt doesn’t. Very nice detail.
  • Luke choosing to use the force for knowledge and defense, rather than for attack in this scene, is the most Jedi thing in the entire saga. Incredible scene!

It’s funny cause earlier in the movie Luke was like “What I’m I gonna do walk out and face the entire first order with my lightsaber.” That’s exactly what ends up happening 😂
  • Even thought it was all an illusion, I still have goosebumps seeing Luke Skywalker taking the title of Jedi once again and sacrifice himself like obi wan did...simply poetic

Something that makes this one of my favourite scenes in Star Wars is the reference to one of Yodas teachings in Empire. “A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defence. Never for Attack.” And that’s something Luke does exactly in this scene
  • I love the small detail of luke getting out of attack position in the same exact way he did when he turned darth vader good.
  • This scene honestly shows how incredibly strong with the Force Luke actually was

Luke simultaneously humiliates Kylo Ren in front of his entire military, buys the rebels time to escape and robs the First Order of the propaganda coup of killing him, all without a single aggressive move. He became the legend the galaxy needed. Amazing scene.

"No. Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you. Just like your father." The most loving and hurtful thing ever is that the ghosts of your past murders forever haunt you. But it's also loving because Luke understands he is not the one to save Ben and he will always love him.
  • I love the way Kylo fights, It's like he started to learn the forms but he's too impatient to really follow them. He takes wide, wild swings, and does so with an intent to kill. It fits his character perfectly.

The look on Kylo's face when he puts his lightsaber through Luke, to absolutely no effect, is one of my all-time favorite Star wars moments. The fact that Luke defeated him without any violence or conflict whatsoever deconstructed Kylo's entire philosophy and worldview in a second, and his face just says "I don't know what to do now."
  • "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye" "I'm sure you are" "How'd that get in there?" "Don't cry" "See ya chump!"

Only now years later I'm starting to see the brilliance behind this battle. Luke refuses to fight Kylo Ren, refuses to give him the satisfaction of feeding his need for blood by not dueling. He evades every attack, then pulls a perfect u turn revealing that Ren's own hubris and anger has defeated him (in allowing the resistance to escape) Upon first seeing it I felt underwhelmed. Not anymore!
  • @LateNightHalo
Its beautiful that he doesnt give Ben the satisfaction of a Lightsaber fight. He avoids each attack, never striking.
  • @willmorton2123
The best part about all of this is that Luke didn’t even need to be there/hurt anyone to win. Him being the legend he doubted he actually was let the rebels believe in him and escape. And not one person dies after Luke arrives. What an awesome character.
