Just got home from a long day to see that Emkay had posted! Thanks, guys. This is exactly what I needed : )

knowing jack was a rock collector as a kid makes me,, way too happy that i collect rocks even when i've gone past childhood

i love how he is able to look at unusual and weird photos and make it so funny and watchable at the same time

I just find ultimate satisfaction when the narrator ends on a funny sentence, and then the music and the video ending just adds to the comedic effect.

water kind of is just goop. it has an incredibly high density that makes it stay together so well. that's why it was able to do the thing it did in the video.

For some reason those clouds terrify me. Just the way they’re formed scares me. Just imagine a normal day you’re walking along and then you see that. It’s awesome. But also terrifying. Does anybody agree? Probably just me.

It's called impasto, and it's the three-dimensional impressions the brush leaves in the paint; some paintings have nearly none at all, but some, like this piece, have impasto heavy enough that one can see how important it can be to the image. Most oil paintings have some amount of impasto due to a combination of the properties of oil paint, the shape of the brush, and the artist's technique. On Van Gogh's pieces, for instance, one can see the short but heavy strokes he painted with. There's also an American painter (whose name I'm currently blanking on, sorry) who painted a lot of cakes and pastries, and he built up the paint like it was actual frosting on the cake. Piped it on and everything, if I remember right.
