Another New Emotion Will Appear At The End Of Inside Out 2?!

The main protagonist in Inside Out is Joy. She’s the outgoing, optimistic, and determined leader of the other emotions, who does everything she can to ensure that Riley will always end up safe, happy, and content. Throughout the first film, she has to learn the importance of accepting other emotions, especially those that seem to counteract her achievements. With the release of Inside Out 2’s trailer, it seems the sequel will follow the same themes, with Riley’s new emotions needing to learn the same lesson. Interestingly, the four new emotions could directly oppose one of the five Riley has had since childhood. However, with nine emotions in Headquarters, there’s an imbalance occurring in Riley’s mind. At first glance, Joy is the only emotion without a new counterpart. In today’s video, we’re discussing potential emotions that could appear to counteract Joy.

The problem I'm having with these theories is that they presuppose that a tenth emotion needs to be ANOTHER negative one. Look at the new core, with nine instead of the five. Only one of them, Joy, is a positive emotion. I would love it if Pixar could give this poor girl a break and give her another positive emotion, like love or hope or (the good kind of) pride.

To be honest Depression was already in the movie, when Joy and Sadness goes away and the others try to composite that’s literally what depression is, an absence of emotions with occasional fear and anger, I really wish people would get that depression isn’t just about feeling sad
  • Actually I think you'll be based off the six stages of brief depression joy is happy and cheerful while depression's grooming sort of something like sadness but very not it'd be the opposite of joy
  • Why does it feel like all of these options are just facets of Sadness?

That's part of my problem with the new emotions; they're just extensions of the original emotions. Anxiety is an extension of Fear, and Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui are all extensions of Disgust. For context, embarrassment is basically disgust towards one's self, Ennui (from what I can gather) is disgust with the world, and Evy is somewhere in between; disgusted toward the people who have something, and disgusted toward the self for not having it.
  • I’m shocked they don’t have love as an emotion. That would be a great fit
  • Joy is actually one of the antagonists of inside out. She does that by being in charge and trying to take control when really Riley needs sadness, cuz all good memories turn sad eventually

I think that emotions being "opposite" doesn't make sense. Saying something like Joy and Sadness are opposites isn't inherently true because that puts it on a binary spectrum, but emotions are anything BUT binary.
Possible emotions to me are like Peace/Serenity, Obsession/Need or Love/Admiration, rather than just specific feelings of sadness.

I can see the black emotion on the thumbnail being depression XD

I think we've already met the last emotion, sort of. There's an evil laugh at the end of the first trailer which doesn't match any of the emotions we've seen thus far.

Grief is necessary negativity. Also I actually like the editing and visuals you used, the fake black controller looked good
  • I love that they are intense negative emotions but could be used for good like sadness but I think gloom is it cause he is the perfect antagonist

It could be depression... But i think it might be Disappointment

Like hope and assertiveness and confidence, thet need to give her positive emotions. And when she meets Howie and his friends, they need to give her love.
  • The last emotion could be love as Riley misses her old city and loves hockey so could mean why sadness would mess up what joy was doing. Bing bong is the first thing Riley loved the most, so if he doesn’t exist anymore which the first movie of inside out said so this could mean that Riley is growing up.😊😊😊

Joy does NOT need a counterpart, you've said it yourself, she is the main protangonist.
