Tha Carter III is the sixth studio album by American rapper Lil Wayne, released on June 10, 2008, by Cash Money, Universal Motown & Young Money Entertainment. It follows a long string of mixtape releases and guest appearances on other hip hop and R&B artists' albums, helping to increase his exposure in the mainstream. The album features appearances from Jay-Z, T-Pain, Fabolous, Robin Thicke, Busta Rhymes, Juelz Santana, Babyface, Bobby V, and Kanye West, among others. It also features Static Major, who is credited posthumously following his death in February 2008.

Amid release delays and leaks, Tha Carter III became one of the most anticipated releases of 2008. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling over 1 million copies in its first week which made it one of the fastest-selling albums in the US. It reached sales of 2.88 million copies by the end of 2008 and produced four singles that achieved chart success, including the international hit "Lollipop" and Billboard Hot 100 hits "A Milli", "Got Money", and "Mrs. Officer".

Upon its release, Tha Carter III received widespread acclaim from music critics and has since been regarded as one of Wayne's best albums. It earned Lil Wayne several accolades, including a spot on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards and won for Best Rap Album, while "Lollipop" won Best Rap Song and "A Milli" won Best Rap Solo Performance. “Did this bang in the club?” “Idk i wasn’t in the club in 2008” Had me dying 😂😂😂
  • @dies3156
"Did this shit bang in the club or what!?" "-I was 8" 😂😂
  • @Davon85J
This album was a formative part of my life. Literally not sure I would have fallen in love with hip hop without it.
  • @firvlays
The part when Kevin says "he sounds fun to hang around" and Wayne answers "I know haha" is gold😂

This era is truly incredible. The fact that C3 got leaked and Wayne decided to scrap it and make a whole new album is insane (The original C3 is still really good imo). Plus selling a million first week with this, his mixtape + feature run, and soon the Young Money takeover 😮‍💨 Wayne was unstoppable 🐐
  • I haven’t clicked this fast on a video in a while
  • The bar “Bitch I could turn a crack rock into a mountain” will never leave me
  • I was 13 when this came out. Went to go buy it at the shop and got told I couldn't get it without an adult. Knowing my parents would never do it, I went and asked a neighbor I saw in the mall. The 1st album I ever spent my own money to own. I love it so much.
  • So happy y’all finally reacted to one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time Lil Wayne top 5 all time

I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this album from front to back. Every song has a different memory attached to it for me.
  • Fun fact: Comfortable - produced by Kanye West, was a sample of Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name", also produced by Kanye
  • This album was everything. The build up to it was even more. If there could have been a way to show your dad all of his mixtapes leading up to this, I feel like your dad’s understanding of how well put together this album was. So much anticipation, sold a million copies in the first week. Lil Wayne is the GOAT of Hip Hop
  • Maaaan, this album was THE album of 2008. Every time you turned on the radio, you were going to hear something from this album. Lollipop, Mr. Carter, Ms. Officer, Comfortable, Got Money, A Milli, Tie My Hands were all on heavy radio rotation in Chicago. And yeah, to answer your question about Got Money being a banger in the club, it totally was. I turned 21 in 2009 and it was STILL being played then. Edit: It's funny you guys bring up his cadence as well. Back then almost every rap artist that came out tried using that same flow that Wayne had here. Big Sean, Mac Miller, Childish Gambino, Diggy Simmons. Drake sounded just like Wayne during the "So Far Gone" era. But yeah, newer artists like Young Thug have mentioned that Wayne was one of his biggest influences if not the biggest.
  • All the hype leading up to Wayne dropping this album was amazing. All the features and mixtapes he dropped claiming he was the “best rapper alive”, and then backing it up with this classic. You just had to be there…
  • Oh man…Comfortable is a top 3 song on this album for me. And it wasnt when it came out, but revisiting it a few years back it stood out
  • @evedotcom
A Milli remains an absolute favourite for me after all these years 😂 loved your reaction
  • Tie My Hands is his most underrated song in the catalog. The story telling and lyricism in the loud track embodies his true greatness. No unnecessary punchlines and metaphors or lost bars. It’s a complete track.
