  • as a white girl who grew up with ariel looking like me… seeing black people being so happy seeing themselves represented on screen (in such an iconic role)is the most heartwarming visual - i loved this video <3
  • @smithtown00
I think what is so touching is that we never get to see young black girls/women just being sweet, cute, innocent, and charming in the mainstream media. The negative stereotypes are so strong and devastating that it's almost shocking to see this. I also shed a tear or two.
  • I started crying when she started singing too. I am so proud of Halle for taking on this role I know there was some difficulty to it too but I know she is going to do a phenomenal job. I can’t wait to see it.❤❤❤
  • people that are still mad about this are so unbelievably childish and bitter it’s pathetic. how anyone can look at these kids crying they’re so excited to see themselves and still wanna say no, says more than enough about them. these kids deserve the world and I can only hope it’s as meaningful to young black kids as the original was to queer youth

The trailer made me emotional as well! She is so beautiful and her voice is like an enticing siren song. I just want to keep hearing it!
  • Listen, I don't know what happened but tears just started coming when I heard her voice. She is going to win so many awards! I just know it.❤️
  • I’m so excited for this movie! I’m white and I am happy for Halle for being casted as Ariel. She is gonna be amazing as Ariel. I have gained so much respect for her and she is going to shine. Seriously I wish I had a singing voice as good as her’s. However everyone else looks amazing too.

It's when heard Ariels singing, it really hit me and she sounds sooo much like Jodie Benson! Getting chills over a movie based on a cartoon! But a classic one!
  • Sucks for the ignorants who hate on this because they can't stand seeing black girl absolutely slaying this role, jokes on them 😂😂 I know where I'll be May 26, supporting the hell out of this!!
  • without a doubt listening to halley sing I can understand why she was selected to play ariel. what characterizes ariel is not that she is white or redhead, it is her voice, AND WHAT HALLEY TRANSMITS TO ME WHEN I HEAR HER SING, LEAVES ME SPEECHLESS.
  • @YehShuhu
She genuinely has the most perfect voice for a disney princess. I'm so excited for this movie and as a non-black latina who grew up with Disney princess who also never really saw myself or my family in a princess I cried along with you 😭
  • @andressali4
Halle is amazing!!! She sings with her soul!!! I can't stop crying too.
  • When she did that last note I started tearing up. I'm not going to lie. ❤ Halle's voice got me and I'm just so glad she was chosen!!!
  • We agree representation is very important! Kudos to Disney for recognizing the changing of American culture to inclusivity of people of color. From Cinderella starring Brandy, produced by the great Whitney Houston; Beauty and the Beast starring HER; and soon to be released The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey. Disney has come a long way since the black crows scene in DUMBO.

Witnessing black people heal their inner child seeing Ariel as a beautiful black mermaid makes me so warm and fuzzy inside, Halle looks so beautiful and she is THE perfect Ariel hands down, the voice is scarily similar to Jodi Benson (the original) and she has the same facial features as ariel also! I’m so excited for this movie! 🥰🥰🥰
  • @diegoyeamp
i cried SO much too !!! representation really does matter , and seeing that + having a connection to the movie (childhood) it just .. idk what word to use but YKWIM
  • @Hwilki
I adored your reaction. I had the same feelings watching the trailer for the first time, I was crying at everything! I love what you said about children growing up on both versions. For me as a child of the 90’s I grew up on Brandy’s Cinderella first and foremost but I also had the animated Disney version as well. They didn’t compete with each other in my mind, I enjoyed them both. So I feel like this live action Little Mermaid is going to give that representation to so many babies as well as give us older folks our LIFE!!!
  • @pynqchillz
She literally put dem critics down, I've known about Halle way before she gets this role and Disney definitely know what's up! They got the right lass to play the role, she's got talent. So proud of this girl ❤️
  • This movie can be terrible and it wouldn't matter, her voice will carry it. Sooo glad they picked her, a real professional singer and not just an actress who kina sings.
  • Especially with Tiana being a frog for most of her movie. If they were ever to make a live action we wouldn’t even see her except for ten minutes or so lol
