  • You put your 12AT7s in the wrong place, my friend. Please follow the tube chart sticker very visible just under the rectifier tube. Also, turn your amp upside down so it is laying on the handle. That way you can see the sockets clearly when putting new tubes in, and you don't need tape to dangle that screwdriver like that with tape. Yikes. That amp will get very noisy very quickly with the 12AT7s in the wrong place, because one drives the reverb and the other is a phase inverter.

    It’s beautiful work man.

You put the preamp tubes in wrong. The 12aT7 tubes do NOT go in those positions on right. Use the tube chart in the amp to see the correct layout. The reverb driver position may burn out since a 12aX7 cannot handle as much current as the 12aT7 needed in that position.

Pretty sure the Intensity knob is just for the Tremelo. Not the reverb..?

With these amps you wanna take that V1 out (Use only vintage channel), replace the V3 12AT7 tube with a 12AU7, Replace the PI AT7 with a AX7 if you want earlier break up, crank up the bias a tiny bit and you got yourself a sweet little bloody amp friendo!

Not entirely sure about a Deluxe, but most amps, if you have a guitar plugged in, and strike the strings, unplug the amp, and wait for all the noise to completely dissapate, you will successfully drain the capacitors.
  • If you put the cab on its narrow side it is easier to take out and replace the tubes.

How important is it to have those power tubes at the same bias? Is it absolutely necessary to buy one of those milliamp readers or is it safe to say that when you are installing brand new tubes, they will be at the appropriate bias for your amp? Obviously I would think it would be better to have adjustability, just wondering if I need to spend an additional $150 for that StewMac milliamp reader to set the bias for the power tubes. Any suggestions/insight would be appreciated! Thanks for the vid
  • Do you have to turn the amp off for an extended period of time before removing the bias meter from the power tubes?
  • Anybody watching this video, please don't put the 12AT7s in the wrong place like he did. Yikes.
  • The 12AX7s and the 12AT7s are installed in the wrong positions!!! This is basic stuff: put the same kind of tube back in that came out of a slot !!! People are thanking you for showing g them how to do this WRONG !!!

I just bought a 2017 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb and was wondering if the stew mac bias type meter you have is the only way to bias these type of amps. I have biased hot rod deville before but bias point on circuit board was easily accessed. I only see the screw driver hole bias pot control one these. thx
  • @neatspy
Great video. My 68 Custom seems to have weak reverb. Do you think replacing the power tubes would help?
  • @brianmartin6808
i`m getting that amp on the 18th if it sounds like what you all say its gonna go back
  • @napomania
