In this slab climbing masterclass, Hannah Morris Bouldering teams up with pro climber Jenya Kazbekova as she shares her expertise on the art of slab climbing. For those of you who don’t already know Jenya, she’s a extremely accomplished competition and rock climber, who at 16 became the Ukrainian champion and is a regular face on the international World Cup circuit.

In this video, Jenya breaks down the different types of slab climbing techniques. She covers a range of topics, including body positioning, footwork, balance, and weight distribution, all essential skills for climbing on slabs. She demonstrates various techniques for improving your slab climbing skills, including how to use your body and feet to create friction, how to read the rock, and how to stay balanced on even the steepest slabs. In the session, you'll learn how to execute slab climbing moves with precision and confidence, and take your climbing to the next level.

Meeting Jenya, I was really taken with her attitude towards climbing as a sport that constantly gives knowledge and growth and her insights into mental training for performance. I hope you enjoy getting to know her throughout this session as much as I did.

This so far my favorite “teaching” video on the channel. Explanations from Jenya are extremely helpful and very detailed and Jenya seems pretty confident in what she thinks is most important on a boulder. Just wow
  • Once Jenya finishes her professional career, she should have her own channel. She is such a good teacher and very sympathetic.
  • @b0604
Jenya seems cool. Always find myself cheering for her in world cups. Great collab.
  • I love how you're bringing all these comp climbers on recently! They are always a joy to watch^^ and educational too
  • @jedkai29
Really great content Hannah, Jenya provides fantastic coaching tips - 45 degrees of force into volumes. Love these collabs, it’s so relatable to see you progressing as a ‘normal’ climber trying and learning with this kind of input, I think it’s good for the 80% of us who are paddling the same boat.
  • Great video. Jenya hasn't really been on my radar before but I'll be rooting for her big time this year, especially after reading the letter she wrote to the IFSC.

From Shauna, the crimp queen, to Jenya, whom I think is the best slab climber on the circuit currently, you are crushing it!
  • I love Jenya's attitude to climbing and her slab knowledge and teaching is second to none. It was fantastic to see your progress and confidence grow with each attempt. We all need a Jenya with us at the climbing gym 🤩
  • You're slowly but surely becoming my favorite climbing channel on YT!
  • @bakaioza
Как же приятно Женьку увидеть, пусть даже в зале. Больших скал и погоды.
  • This was awesome. Learned a ton from this, especially how Jenya analyzes the angle of force of the foot on volumes. And jeez, flashing that green problem was so impressive, that jump move was even sketchy for Jenya haha. Keep it up!!
  • Mate I really like what you do. This looks just like a personal training session, with a good teacher you really vibe with. It doesn't feel scripted at all and so much of it applies to my training. Also the faces you pull as you climb are everything. Very relatable
  • @MiguelClimbs
Wow this was great you guys! Waited until I got home today to watch this on the big screen 🤩 Jenya was an awesome teacher. We support you Jenya! 💙💛
  • @Scotty_dont
I love that she said the red was a good warm up it took me the best part of an hour to get that boxed off 😂 once again though great video thank you!!
  • @savaledj
Being able to do slab climbing is a matter of knowing every detail, Jenya just gave those to us!
  • I have been following both you and Jenya for a while so I am really happy to see this colab 😍
  • @badgolim
Wow, nice to see world class climber explaining everything just simple and also enjoying it and having fun 🤩
  • Fantastic! I love Jenya's climbing style - so graceful, patient and strong. And she explains/coaches slab so well. Great climbing, Hannah!!
