Mount Kōya (高野山, Kōya-san) is a sprawling temple settlement and designated UNESCO site located in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, just south of Osaka and Nara.

This video begins at with a ceremony we found at a small temple (永山帰堂) near the entrance of Okunoin (奥の院) cemetery, surely one of the most atmospheric cemeteries anywhere in the world. Located within the cemetery is the Torodo Hall of Lamps, in and around which no filming is allowed.

The video ends with Kongōbu-ji (金剛峯寺), the head temple of the Kōyasan Shingon Buddhism, actually about 30 mins walk away in the centre of the town.
