  • Residents shouldn't take on the burden when businesses leave. The local government needs to layoff employees.
  • I blame the politicians. They don't believe in a budget but think they can just keep spending and raising taxes to pay for it. As long as we the people don't hold them accountable and force a law that states have to balance their budgets, including the federal government, this will get worse and worse. Today it's your neighbor, tomorrow it will be you!!

Why isn't anyone making a big deal about this tax hike in cook county?????

The biggest culprit, as always, are the Public Schools, which make up about 65-70% of the total property tax bill. Public Schools should not just get what they want from property tax payers anymore--without public approval. Meaning, property owners need a CAP on property tax increases at 3% AND voter-approval for any increase beyond 3%. Maria Pappas's department (Cook County Treasury) is actually the Cook County Collections Agency, and will make your life a living hell if you do not pay your taxes on time. The chain of events that will occur are listed in the following order: Interest Fees, Penalty Fees, Tax Sale, Tax Lien, Tax Foreclosure, and finally loss of home, and out on the street.
  • Not one mention of making CUTS...... They never even consider making CUTS to their budgets

This governor is so full of shit, well, keep raising taxes. And the state will be a ghost town. Let's start with the pension and stop with the increase every year for retires!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if the relocation of so many people from Chicago projects after razing contributes to this problem? Someone should study the history and trends.

We shouldn’t have to pay for abandon properties or ridiculous prices for schools. We can home school. My name is not on any of these properties so I’m not liable for their lost funds. I hope it’s illegal so we can do a class action lawsuit. It was a slap in the face saying that we have to pick up the taxes. So, if it was one resident in the town. Will that one person have to pay the towns taxes? Crazy! Let her pay it!

This will only give large corporations and hedge funds a way to profit from the lack of a basic human need: shelter. I hopes that people can’t afford their home and thus loose them.
  • I have been paying city school taxes for years !!!....i don't have any kids... I think when you retire let the younger childbearing generations pay for their own children !!!! We now need to have been prepared for our own retirement and health care and costs ...

You can thank the Democrats for reckless spending and forcing industry to leave to other states. I know of one house in Glenwood Illinois where the tax has increased by 75%. From 5,200 to 8,900 this year.

AA communities surprisingly have hardly any retail businesses so they put the burden on residents. But our donut eating governor tosses money to illegal immigrants all day. Nice state. See ya John Deere
  • @jrspat000
Well maybe we all should leave I'm looking I guess this is what they want we have not had any businesses in our city nothing changed

Sanctuary City will ruin a state, seeing that the voters want them. Keep the busses rolling.
