Flooding in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) prompted the evacuation of a nursing home in Mississauga, Ont., with more than a hundred residents and dozens of employees caught inside.

Emergency responders were deployed to Tyndall Estates Retirement and Nursing Home after a nearby creek overflowed its banks, causing extensive flooding in the parking lot and on the main floor of the building. The flooding forced 114 residents and more than 50 staff members to find safety upstairs.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS), fire officials and paramedics were on standby for hours, waiting for the water to recede enough to enter the nursing home and evacuate the building.
