I find that endless scrolling turns my brain to mush. The new Hisense A9 Pro has a black and white E-Ink display that not only has a long battery life - but also removes the enticing colorful drips of dopamine that social media gets us addicted with. I for one - look forward to more E-Ink smartphones in the future.

This E-INK smartphone just might solve all the worlds problems...

"with pixels perpetually permanently parked at their prior points of photonic perception". This guy is a poet.

The fact that the display was able to play the video at anything close to a watch-able framerate is astounding.

I want a regular (edit: up to date and from a major manufacturer) smartphone with an e-ink back panel - shopping lists without turning on the phone, yes!

An E-ink smartphone won't be widely popular, but I think E-ink could be used as a secondary display on the back of a regular smartphone to display notifications, which would be like Nothing's Glyph Interface but more useful.

8:34 "would you rock an e-ink smartphone when Apple invents it" 😂😂

It's $469,99 btw, i think the price is quite interesting for a product like this. And they seem to also be focussing on Hi-Fi, including a pretty nice DAC chip. They also offer E-ink Smartphones starting at around ~$330

I really appreciate these companies still doing out of the ordinary, innovative stuff.

Fun fact: that headphone Jack is attached to a real good DAC, something Hisense includes on a lot of their devices. The built-in speaker is also very loud and clear. So listening to music on the A9 is great.

Man that frame scratch always brings me chills on my spine

E-ink would be cool as a secondary display on the back of a phone or a folding phone. Would make it super easy to find your phone in the dimly link situations and get important information as a glance - date/time, notifications, etc.

I must have it. The first smartphone release that has made me smile in a long time

I think thr biggest factor limiting advancement in e-ink screens is the fact that they are patented and solely controlled by a single company (E-ink holdings) with many patents to prevent competition; but then startups and industry can't really play with the screens to make too many improvements, just license them for use.

I guess I'm too old to remember the days when any mobile phone used to have a week-long battery life.
  • @Hyerald
    e-ink is an underrated technology
  • @Zerbey
I'm sold, this would be perfect as either a secondary phone or a work phone.
  • That actually looks amazing as a secondary phone, eg a work phone! Put away the colourful distractobox during the day yet still have the eInk phone to respond to messages from colleagues or get paged if the system you maintains goes down yet still be able to log into all the systems you need to investigate the problem while you're finding a place to set up your laptop. Even has a camera + headphone jack for Zoom! I wish you'd mentioned the price because if it was low enough to be a secondary work phone, I'd honestly be tempted

I had a Yotaphone 2 several years ago that I enjoyed, the front was a traditional color display and the rear was an E-Ink screen, you could send apps or use the entire phone on the rear E-ink display, I really liked that phone.
