Why I stopped swearing (but you shouldn't)

What parts of us exist only as a reaction to pressure?

Here's the shirt: www.hybridcalisthenics.com/hello-mfs

This is a Coffee With Hampton episode that I sometimes do on the channel. It's about life, mental health, self development, and more. I'm considering a second channel where I do longer videos on it. Plus, that'd give me to make some videos that are often requested but don't have much demand (such as how to manage anger, make friends etc). Will update you all.

Have a wonderful day!

  • My man's turned a short personal anecdote into a full blown motivational speech on the purpose of life
  • @lb7473
You have inspired me so much. I am a 13 year old boy who has been struggling with my weight and being self conscious and people at school have called me fattie and stuff. But I am trying to lose weight and you have helped me with that and I gust want to say thanks.

This is a good example of “teaching how to think and not what to think”.

I recently got a degree in Psychology, and I'm 100% sure that Hampton could be a counselor From the tone, to the body language, to the meticulous/careful wording, and the genuine compassion. This man is one of the most inspiring people I've seen

I personally never was into swearing, bc my mother was very against it growing up. I realize now when i swear, it really has a weight and it doesn't feel just vulgar, it really means i'm mad and upset.
  • @terryenby2304
I kinda went the opposite way! 😅 I spent years refusing to swear because everyone else did it and thought they were cool. But in the last few years, since my kids got older, and I don’t work anymore, I swear a LOT. I still speak politely around my parents, but only because language means a lot more to them than most of my family. I think it took me until I was 30 to really figure out who I am regardless of other people.

I started to think about this too recently!! Asking "why am I not feminine like other girls"... after I realized it was because my mom was pretty strict and I saw my dad as a role model.. it became my defense mechanism. As soon as I realized that, my mindset immediately change, I'm starting to explore feminine stuff! like it's totally crazy, I didnt expect this at all!!!
  • This is and probably will be my lifes struggle. All my childhood I was praised for being kind, smart and "angelic". My nickname actually used to be "mother theresa". I was so sweet and liked by pretty much everyone. As a teenager I wondered "AM I actually nice? Because what I feel inside is sometimes jealousy and anger and hatred". What I was and what other people thought I was got so mixed up that I, to this day, cannot clearly see what the nuances are for me. What helps, however, was going the polar opposite. Swearing, getting a stupid boyfriend, skipping law school for a few years and farting frequently in front of my prude dad might seem like bad life choices but they have been so freeing that I was able to comfortably go back to my actual goals and pursue them. Law school feels much easier while swearing, being kind is much more fulfilling when you do it to actually help others instead of impressing others and dumping the stupid boyfriend was easy after accepting that every stage of me is lovable. Even if I don't really know what "me" is.
  • FYI I debated the background music to this for an hour before uploading it, trying piano, different volumes, etc. I think I was overthinking it. For each person that is bothered by it, I will shed one tear. (No but seriously if you want a music-free version I can upload one. Unlisted or something probably).

Hampton, you've propelled me into sitting for a whole hour with your video, just reflecting about all the choices I've made so far, and the things that influenced them. I don't know how to say it, gosh darn you actually made me think haha. Much love to you, my fellow world neighbour!

Despite many beliefs, I actually enjoyed being a teenager in the midst of covid and without social media. As he mentioned, being away from society was able to let me figure out what kind of person I want to be without as many pressures. While I have always been more introverted, Covid had helped me become the best version of myself, and I have been able to carry that with me as my life goes on. It had helped me to really think about my relationships with people.
  • @outfield243
Dude this is profound, many people don’t see themselves as their own and instead try to change their image for others. I’m definitely guilty of this
  • @GCAT01Living
I've realized as I've grown up that it's not the word themselves that are "bad", it's the connotation behind them. So, I don't have a problem with swearing at all (I swear a good bit) so long as the words have no malice behind them. I'm right here with you Hampton, I try to live my life doing things with a 100% self-initiated motivation. Unfortunately, I learned this lesson a bit too late in life and am now in a career and living situation that aren't really right for me and it's because of outside pressure. I'm trying to make the best of it and make what changes I can to live a more fulfilling life.

Wisdom ❤ “Where do you run when no one is chasing you?”
  • @jessmbaby
This video is not what I expected, but I'm grateful for what it is. "Where do you run when no one is chasing you?" This is such a profound and wonderful question to sit with.
  • @doom-mantia
This was a lot deeper than I expected it to be. Very thoughtful even. I personally minimise how much I swear just because when I do use swear words, I'd like that they should hold more 'weight' than if I used that language very casually and often.

On that religion thing it sent chills down my spine. My family is super religious and my parents raised us christian and I’m the one sibling that isn’t religious. My brother is religious loves it and is raising his kids that way. It’s the same thing that drove me away gives him peace it’s odd
