  • IMO, one of the big reasons Elon Musk likes being interviewed by Tim Dodd and gives him these special tours, is that Tim notices when he should be quiet to allow Elon time to think. Tim does this very well, both while waiting for answers to questions, and when he simply notices Elon has "gone off" somewhere in his head to think.

We are incredibly fortunate that Elon has developed the level of trust in you that he obviously has. I think it’s hard to overstate how fortunate we are to have this level of visibility into what SpaceX is doing and into Elon himself.

The moments I like the most are when you make a suggestion about something or ask about other possibilities and Elon actually takes a moment to think about it as if you were actually one of his employees or a consultant of sorts. Especially with him saying they actually changed something in the design based off a conversation you two previously had. Says a lot about who Elon is as a person. Thank you for these videos!

I can’t get over how cool it is that Tim’s simple question of “But this is only for the booster, right”? Lead to a major design change and optimization for the ship.
  • For an engineer like me, it's always great to hear Elon say "we might be wrong" or, "we don't always get it right" since it shows how important the engineering/scientific process is for endeavors like this (or really any project.)
  • @ImagineYouFr
Astonishing transparency on undergoing developments ! Never would old NASA have been so open to discussions about ship design & optimisations. Great video !

Still hella impressed with how down to earth Elon is.. Walking you around and taking actual interest in your existence.. How he is so hands on with his work force and not shy to walk about and say hello to everyone.. Great stuff
  • very impressed that Elon not only gives you unprecedented access to the Starbase but he considers you a friend too. Thats a friend for life!

I don't think anyone will ask better questions to Elon than Tim...keep bringing space down to earth for everyday people like us
  • You can tell he has 20x more important things on his mind & is trying his best to answer this guy’s questions as accurate as possible when him & his team are still in the learning process with everything at the moment
  • @daradevil123
Notice how Elon talks..he let the other person finish and then he talks. He never interrupts anyone speech. Incredible
  • @CreamyBone
You can clearly tell that Elon enjoys and appreciates Tim's interviews. He's in a completely different mode here than ANY other interviews you see 👍
  • "Video is going to be pretty technical" - Tim "New Mega Bay is Girthy!" -Elon
  • @FredPlanatia
and i must add you are just hitting them out of the ballpark. All questions you ask, they've discussed (frequently) and the explanations are coming at a level we amateurs can understand, Thanks Tim for being a well-prepped interviewer!
  • @ranradd
Today I fixed my rake with epoxy, a bolt and plumbers tape. Then I watched this discussion on rocket design iterations and realized I'm just past being a cave man. Thanks for the interview, it was awesome!
  • @ramosel
These are the best SpaceX interviews. I think this is to Tim's credit that he is genuinely engaged in the subject and doesn't bring any bullshit agendas to Mr. Musk. It's obvious Elon is intensely involved in these projects and appreciates the interest being returned. No one else gets this kind for response from Elon. Good Job Tim!! And THANK YOU to Tim and Elon.
  • @gasdive
The EA questions are so good that they're stimulating improvements. That "oh, I actually thought of that while talking to you". It shows just how good these interviews are.
  • @ollie9999
What I love about this conversation, is it's a real conversation with everyone knowledgeable and passionate on the topic. Rather than some generic interview and official PR output.
  • I love seeing Elon trying to problem solve while doing an interview. One feeds the other and then back again. The sheer number of problems to solve is staggering but doable when tackled one at a time. Keep moving forward!
