Once i forced shut down my PC when it was updating. I had to reinstall Windows :(
  • @SethMacMillan
I feel a great need to send this to some of my company's clients. At one point, they pulled the plug on their server because it'd locked up.

1:51 To continue Linus' analogy: Shutting down the computer properly is a parent telling a kid to go to sleep. Pressing the power button is knocking them out with a baseball bat. Will turn everything off either way, but one leaves some brain-I mean, system damage.

Anyone remember "It is now safe to turn off your computer."?
  • Me: Force power off PC for the first time 5 minutes later Youtube Recommendation: You shouldn't do that....

Don't worry, I see a blue light at the end of the Tunnel. Blue Screens

I have lost many minecraft singleplayer games this way.....
  • @cyndll
Me: hasn't saved in 5 hours My cat: Hippity hoppity, your power button is now my property
  • Yeah, my parents grinded this into me. It pissed me off so much that so many other students at school just press the force-off button. The only time I turn off my computer by removing its power is if a game crashes, and I can't go to my desktop or close the app. The absolutely last choice.

I once turned off my computer while it's updating, and that's where I learned my lesson

I had a lady who kept turning the computer off by holding the button despite scolding her about it. She eventually killed the hard drive and wanted me to fix it again. I gave her the out of warranty cost due to negligence. This pissed her off and she called the warranty company on me. They called me and took my side.
  • Simple explanation for those who dont get it: if you force a pc shutdown, it might or may have a chance on running chkdsk. If you force a shutdown on a pc while updates, your going to risk system files to be corrupted. Save your unsaved files but dont force a shutdown
  • If you can’t be bothered waiting for an update you can just press Ctrl+alt+delete and select shutdown without installing updates:)
