U.S. Army's UH-60 Black Hawk is the Front Line Utility Helicopter was the result of lessons learned by the Army during the Vietnam War. While war in Southeast Asia validated the usefulness of helicopters in modern warfare, high helicopter and personnel losses led to a demand for a faster, better armored rotary-wing transport aircraft. The result was the now-iconic UH-60 “Black Hawk helicopter, the Army's front line utility helicopter for the past 40+ years.

The Black Hawk has always been my favourite looking helicopter. Just has such an iconic military special forces look to it.

I spent my entire 24 year Army career as Air Assault Infantry. I started in Hueys as they were being phased out and finished my career in Blackhawks. We LOVED the Blackhawk. Compared to the Huey it was a LOT quieter, smoother, faster and the "hell hole" was not nearly as bad.
  • We Albanians are very thankful for the 3 Black Hawks USA donated us.We also bought another 8 Black Hawks. These helicopters are amazing.

Just a great machine, yes they've crashed, name a country with a domestic design that hasn't. Sometimes the problems happen at the worst times, called life. If you take its success over the few failures it proves to be a vital asset to whichever country its defending. The pilots who fly this machine are just as phenomenal as the bird itself for it takes a warrior to fly a warrior. Thank you

I believe it's named after the Blackhawk tribe. Not the person. All the Army helicopters are named such: Iroquois (Huey), Kiowa, Apache, etc.

Today is 23 April 2023. I just caught the YEH 60B on flight radar heading west from Lexington Ky over my house , just wanted to share , I’m not positive but I think it’s the only one in existence. Pretty cool just wanted to share .

To be truly functional the UH-60 needs a Krurig coffee maker installed for flight crew needs.

17 YO crew chief back in early 80’s - 90’s. It was such a great feeling to put on your zoom bags and see Germany, Korea, and all over the states! And a little time in the sandbox :)
  • The UH-60 Blackhawk is a beautiful helicopter, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless defiant x.

Rode in one of these for the first time today as part of an ESGR BossLift. It’s a floating monster with a butter smooth ride. Thanks Idaho Air Guard pilots for a great flight!
