NON One Piece Fans REACT to One Piece Ep 1 & Ep 1071 (Gear 5)

Gear 5 specifically makes Luffy (and im pretty sure anything he interacts with) an old school Rubber hose style animation, as long as Luffy finds it funny he can probably do it.

like homie in the straw hat was saying the reason so many ppl love this transformation is because it’s not your typical edgy/badass (even though it is still badass) transformation. this transformation suits luffy perfectly and it’s so different than what you usually see in anime

I'm like 99% sure Oda had this toon force thing planned from chapter ONE, and to think of the bravery involved in holding onto it for over a quarter of a century knowing that another mangaka might beat you to it, just to make sure it narratively hit as hard as it does visually, comically, etc...

NOBODY saw this coming. I been watching One Piece theory videos for a hot minute and people were guessing all sorts of wild shit. But NOBODY guessed "Super Saiyan Bugs Bunny"

Oda said his inspiration was Tom and Jerry and that he was confused why everyone forgot about the animation that it all started off as and inspired everyone.

Luffy essentially tapped into the toon force. And honestly, the reason why you don't see this sort of transformation in other anime is because it's so silly and goofy that it would break the tone and feel of most other battle shonen stories. But Luffy ... Luffy has been THUROUGHLY established to be not only goofy but downright rediculous. It is 100% believable that the culmination and logical peak of his abilities would be to become an almost literal looney toon. And, because it has been so well established, it doesn't break the tone or feel of the story. I think One Piece and, specifically, Luffy is the only inscance in shonen manga/anime where you could have a transformation like this and it not feel wrong.

One piece will make you shed tears. Keep watching, it gets better and stranger.

Luffy's Devil Fruit Awakening essentially grants the user freedom and a body made of rubber, essentially freedom to fight however they imagine and the only limits is the users own imagination. Luffy is a goofy guy so the cartoony looks is him imposing his imagination to the world hence why even the villain was affected by all the cartoon hijinks. Do note, cause Luffy believes his fruit is just the rubber fruit most of his technique is going to involve turning or using rubber like techniques as its base

Btw watching non one piece fans react to gear 5 while i have seen this form in the manga over a year ago, is my new favourite hobby, and the fact that you guys reacted to the first and latest ep on the same episode, is pure genius bravo

In road to laughtale, the book explains gear 5’s power. It states “the power to turn imagination into reality” and “the more he laughs the stronger he gets” it also states everything that was shown in this episode as well.

Love how they watched episode 1, then skipped the entire show and watched the most recent episode with the biggest reveal in the entire show but because they havent watched the show they don't know it's the biggest reveal in the entire show 😂.

Gear 5 is really similar to the movie The Mask. Luffy was already a goof ball so giving him this power just made him able to bring out his full oddball self.

For gear 5, Oda and the animators watched Who Framed Rodger Rabbit and all the other old western cartoons, took the wacky slapstick comedy  and gave it the Japanese treatment.

I wouldn't be surprised if oda decided that at some point, he will let luffy punch his enemy and turn them into chibi versions.

And this wasn't even the real fight, it was more like a ''gear5'' introduction. The next few episodes will be 🔥🔥🔥
