I watched for ten minutes and then realised I hadn't heard any of it because I was reading comments.

I watched this while having a bath, drying, dressing, making food, eating, washing up, texting friends, playing guitar, regularly pausing to think or express my ideas (basically talking to myself), and getting annoyed when YouTube wouldn't play after pausing, requiring a restart of the app or clearing the cache. Very informative and interesting talk. Thanks.

The myth that you grow out if it…I was told this for years as I just got worse and worse and all the counselors i went to would prescribe me antidepressants…this was even 15 years ago….so for years I was on and off all of the different antidepressants…which just made me mentally depressed….then finally when I was at a new Dr for a yearly exam, he asked me if I had ever been diagnosed with adhd….i wasnt even there for any mental reasons….anyway He ended up prescribing adderal and it changed my life ……he saw the symptoms of adhd as he was just asking me general health questions…it sure makes me wonder about the other people that id seen for most of my life ..if they shouldnt be in that business…

I don’t think I would manage to watch something for so long. Any summary?
  • This is the most compassionate & hopeful presentation I have ever heard on this topic. ~ I am very sorry to have grown up in the sixties & the board of ed were not prepared to help me & my brothers adequately. My brother would suddenly get a burst of energy & have to run, and he would run without realizing where he was running. Unfortunately he ran into the street in front of a car..His life has always been a struggle & he couldn’t make friends because of his acting out. ~ I had other problems including childhood depression. ~ This Doctor is very well prepared & understands the dysfunction from an extremely broad spectrum. He is correct about requesting lots & lots of information on all aspects of the child’s life. 😀😇🙃😘Thankful to listen to this./ BTW, my brother was prescribed strong meds & it made him extremely violent & unstable. I forgot what the meds were, he was like 8 ?

I noticed signs with developmental delays when my son was younger. I never got him tested. I figured I could guide him and he'll eventually "mature". He is now having difficulty in academics and is showing progression of developmental delay at age 10. I'm on the path of finding out if he has a disorder of any sort. He was diagnosed with ADD and will be evaluated for Autism Spectrum. The psychiatrist wanted to put him on medicine from his first visit. This video was very helpful. Knowing the different issues that mimic ADHD and getting an accurate diagnosis for my son is vital because he's not super hyper but the total opposite. I wouldn't want him medicated for the wrong illness. Thank you!

Why can't we run assessments on dopamine and brain imaging to confirm diagnosis?
  • @gailfisher1350
This wonderful doctor has just described my life, of course, without the other negative and horrible experiences with self absorbed, angry, emotionally unavailable and dysfunctional parents.
  • @ginamiller8554
I truly appreciated the slower voice (than usual rushed presentations) and his obvious compassion and all the great info… helped me a lot …thank you!

That’s so true. Once I started sitting front raws I went from C-D student to A student

This lecture sends my ADD brain into overdrive instantly. No ADD person can sit through a well presented academic lecture targeted for "executive brains", which an ADD brain must get up and have to get something in the next room!

i got court in the psycadelic patter at his shirt
  • Me: Sees title "YEAH! THIS WILL ANSWER MY QUESTIONS" Also me: Sees duration "I don't have the attention span for this". Also also me: "How about I do it anyway"

Just recently diagnosed with severe ADHD at 58 which explains why my life has been a nightmare. Quality of life has been negatively affected in every aspect. I keep asking myself if it's worth it to go on.

I know his short must be a vertical stripe pattern, but on my phone it looks metallic. Fun to watch.
