I have to admit, when I saw you DIPPING the oyster crackers, I seriously laughed out loud. You are supposed to open the package, POUR them into the soup and mix them in.

If you find yourself in New Orleans, try the Gumbo again - not from a big chain, but from a small vendor somewhere like in the French Market!!!

New England clam chowder was invented in New England, and gumbo was invented I believe in New Orleans 😊

Clam chowder is fantastic! That's Boston Clam Chowder there, Manhattan Clam Chowder is tomato based. Brits and Europeans always are skeptical about Boston Clam Chowder, but it's a gem, very tasty and addicting.

Let your Mom know next time it's her obligation to eat at least one French fry. No one stands next to a basket of fries (especially good fries) for over two minutes without grabbing a few of 'em. Those are the rules.

You have grown accustomed to the soft drinks. Now ask for a soda "to go" when you leave the restaurant. It's free too!

Just a side note. Shrimp is not considered a fish. It is in the crustacean family, like crabs. But of course it is seafood.

Gumbo is probably the best stew there is when made properly. Cajun food in general is just so damn tasty.

Welcome to seafood, James. Clam Chowder is clams, cream, & potatoes. With lots of butter & lots of pepper. Recipes do vary widely after that.

The oyster cravkers were supposed to go in the chowder and mixed in. I've been to pier 39 Bubba Gump Shrimp, and the food was great! Your wait staff used to come by, see if you need anything, and share Forrest Gump movie trivia. You'll get the best gumbo of your life in New Orleans, but Bubba Gump's is pretty good too.

Since you mentioned how well bread would go with it, some places serve clam chowder in a bread bowl.
