The capital of Tahiti is known as Papeete, and you’ll certainly be spending some time there while you’re on the island. Taking a walk through the capital can provide visitors with some unique sights, and there’s also the Papeete Market that offers tourists and locals alike plentiful amounts of unique and local food and wares. The Papeete Market is one of the best places to go looking for Tahitian pearls to take home as a souvenir, and also to grab some food!

If you want to experience Tahiti’s coasts, the easiest way to do so is by driving along the road that encircles the entire island along them. This road is only 70 miles long, but it may take you several hours to traverse it due to the predominantly low speeds of drivers in the area.
